Thanks guys :) . I think this car turned out well. So far so good. Now if just will runs as good as it looks. Rodney has tuned his original to run great so hopefully we can get Adam's car running sweet, too.

SteveO, I need to email you about those Mura buss bars. I have an idea.

How do you get a good gear mesh with the motor soldered in like that? I can't figure it! :?:

Hi Gary,
Why would you NOT get a good gear mesh? :)

Hi Gary,

Do you mean how do you align things before soldering to get a good gear mesh?

Gary

The quick and easy way to do it, if you don't have the "touch", is solder to the frame first, then insert a piece of the backing paper from the colored lane stickers between the two gears (feed it into the gears as you turn the rear wheels), then solder the second joint, go back and apply heat to the first solder joint only long enough to "relax" the mesh, then turn the rear wheels to remove the paper and you should have a really nice mesh.

If you watch racers doing quick motor changes between heats, you'll see that many employ that technique.

Cash register receipts and the plastic parts bags can also be used when setting gear mesh. :)

Yes! It seems Barry explained a good way to do it! Is that how you do yours, Rick? :?:

Gary, Dokk uses both sides of the Kleenex, same as with his writing paper and toilet tissue.

C'mon, guys, the truly authentic way to set gear mesh is with . . . a rolling paper, preferably ZIg Zig brand. Or so I've been told!

Yes, Barry explained a very good way to do it. If I was smart, that's how I would do it too. However, never admitting to being smart, I prefer to try and employ what Barry called "the touch". This method invariably fails as I don't have "the touch"  :( . I then employ my fall back plan and reheat the joint and wiggle the motor a nano meter or two to correct the gear mesh. With this car I only made one adjustment to get it right. Ah, "the touch" was almost there....or did I almost get lucky

A piece of cellophane from a pack of smokes.

Caveat: Cheater's method is probably more politically correct these days. :smokin:

I just got back from Eddies Slot Car World's Blue King. The Stocker is a keeper. It was a match for Rodney's original in speed and handling right out of the box. It's an absolute blast to drive. The NCC20 armature is VERY happy with modern Champion medium brush springs and Modern Mura Red Dot magnets (honed to .525"). It's got lots of brakes and great punch.

I also tried my Mike Morrissey "What If..." car. It is, so far, a complete disaster. But, that's another story!

Adam, you’re going to love the Stocker :)

Just popped into this when googling - the chassis is quite reminiscent what I did in early 70's but the body is in miserable shape. Any ideas where I coud find something like it; I used it to win the Finnish Championships in '73.

Hi Pekka,

I think you have a Dynamic Ford Talladega there. It was also made by others, MAC I think, back in the 70's. I'm not sure if anyone is currently doing a repop of it like:

We'd love to see pictures of you chassis :)

I'll take some photo - perhaps needs some rust/mold/dirt removing first...

Well, an old pic with original dirt found

Sweeet !  It even has a goop shield !! I'll bet it runs great ! Looks heavy enough and it's probably got the Horsepower to push it !

:good:

Originally it had a Pooch can with #25 arm but later a Steube can, probably with a Pooch again. The track where the Nats were driven had a steep downhill slope on the inner lanes - on the main straight - so much lead was needed to get the cars to land down into the slot (hopefully...). The elephant ears are a later addition, too.

Hey Capt. Rick, I won a ToyTech Batmobile body with a 5.1" WB and I've been wondering what type of chassis to build for it.

I think I just found it !! :D

Sounds like an awesome project Pablo :good: Good choice on what chassis to put underneath it :D Actually looking at this project again Rick, this could be on the build agenda at some point! Love that bodyshell !!!!

It's a great handling chassis Pablo. Let me know if you'd like me to send it to you for reference. I used Rodney's original Owl Chump chassis to build mine.

Electric Dreams used to sell this body Paul. Not sure if they still do. I believe they had Parma do the pulls and they were really nice.
