Hi Guys,

I'm looking to build a wing car using a Koford wire chassis and Contender motor setup. Checking out the Koford chassis's they have a few of them available and I'm not sure where you would use each type. Any advice?

The ones I've seen:

M500A: Beuf Express G12 Chassis

M513A: Short Beuf Express G12 Chassis

M530C: Short Ultra Beuf Express G12 Chassis

M530E: Ultra Beuf Express G12 Chassis w/ gear guard

Thanks and best regards,

Tony Peczinka

Obsessed is the word the lazy use to describe the dedicated.

Why waste the chassis putting a Contender in it; put a 12 in it and go Wing Car racing....

The 513a is a good start....

One of my local raceways has a 155' King Track (Gerding) and the other local raceway has a 209' Engelman. Very different tracks from one another. Right now we race a class called Super Wings at the raceway with the King Track. We run 4" Champion Turbo Flex cars with aluminum pans and ProSlot S16D motors (cheap Chinese arms). There is a $12 limit on tires, 64 pitch gears, 3/32" axle and no glueing in. The class is fun but I'd like to see something faster without getting into the whole Group 12 class. I've gotten my cars dialed in to the point that I can run the green, orange, blue and yellow lanes wide open without lifting a finger (gets kinda boring). The kids run a Parma 4" Flexi 5 Wing car, 48-pitch gears, 1/8th axle and Parma green endbell #502 S16D motors with stock 9T pinion. Us older guys/dads wanted to run Wing cars but something faster which is how this Super Wing class got started.

I figured going to a wire chassis and C-Can motor the cars would be a LOT faster, we can use a better body (such as low-profile Viper), but keep the $12 tire rule and no glue. We wouldn't add weights to the car either (to keep it simple plus it's lighter). Sort of a made up Hot-Rod class....LOL :) The wire chassis's seem to be more durable too (the aluminum pans bend very easily on the Champion cars). Plus the cost of the wire chassis isn't that much more than the Flexi chassis's. I originally thought we'd run the S16C motors since they are the fastest out of the three non Group class motors (Super Wasp, Contender and S16C) but I was told that the S16C's don't last very long. We want an affordable Wing car class that's just faster than what we're running. Maybe not run a wire chassis but run the C-Can motors in our current rigs would be a better idea? What do you guys think? I'm open to suggestions.

Best regards,
Tony Peczinka

Everyone is familiar with the King tracks but here is a picture of the 209' Engelman in the new local raceway that just opened up.

The Chassis's you mention are not "Wire" Chassis's..........They are Steel perimeter chassis's. "Wire Chassis's have steel fronts and rears with wire rails.

I'm new to this slot car stuff so I guess i don't have all the terminology correct...LOL :)

Basically they're Group 12 chassis's, correct?

You forgot the 451 viper and I think the number is 490, the viper is longer and may work on that track.
my two cents

The 500 Series chassis is a little longer and is pretty much what comes in the Koford Box Stock cars that your raceway orders from the distributors. Its a very forgiving and easy to drive chassis and I 've built up a couple, including one for our store owner here in Jax for our 153ft high speed hillclimb. The 530 series is a shorter chassis made more for a king track, but with the right body can be made to handle easily. I currently run the 530G myself. Probably between the two tracks you showed, I'd go with the 530 series and use a ribbed body.

Tony, I just wanted you to be sure to get the right kind of chassis. The chassis/body combo Michael has suggested is a good one.
Have fun

Thanks for the advice guys.

Michael, I didn't see the 530G chassis on the online store I was browsing but I'll see if I can find it. Do you have a part number for the ribbed body? Also, would you guys suggest running the small diameter Contenders or the big arms on these two tracks? I'm guessing both will work if geared correctly but not sure if there is a preference.

Thanks again for your help!
