Here is a Wiking classic Horch 850 Berlin W car modified for slots using a motor from a Bachman trackster inspection car from the '70s. Those motors were only 9/16" wide, giving more possibilities for slimmer bodied cars. After that is an Aurora TJet yellow classic Lincoln made into a convertible.

Hey Rodney,
I've been admiring your 1/24 builds for quite awhile and was hoping that your HO stuff would emerge at some point!
Love the 4WD Lola and remember seeing it way back when. How does it run?
Best,
Mark

Great hearing from you, Mark. Do you still have HO cars from back then? PM me. I will dig up a few more to show.
The Lola worked okay. It needed better compound tires. The Javelin worked great.

Hi Rodney,
PM sent. I still have this car I built back in the 70's. Mangled wipers and modern rear tires notwithstanding!

Mark, the Mirage looks great. I remember the choice of the green wire armature and the special magnets used in the car were the hot setup.
My friend Eric said it best: "These brass pan bronze pickup AFX based cars handle and drive like miniature 1/24th scale pro cars."

Thanks, Rodney. I built this in 2003. Unlike some Aurora bodies that were totally misshapen so they covered the chassis (McLaren Elva, I'm talking about you), the Aurora Dino is nice and low on the sides. Mods to the chassis and gearplate allowed me to lower the body.

Here is the smallest member of the Oakland Speedway Collection:
A Keiji Kanegawa HO car.
Keiji made the very light and thin Lola T220 body. Note the added air control that mimics the 1/24th scale air control of 1972-73. Of course, Keiji paint and lettering. The nose is lettered Lola T220. The body was attached with tape.
I later added the body mounting pin tubes and ran the car with the Camaro body, also shown.
The HO car is a T-Jet-based car. The car has a drop arm for the Tyco guide and plumber for the pans. The brass chassis pan has arms that hold ball bearings for the rear axle. Riggen wheels and tires are used.
The car is fast and handles great. Oakland Speedway had a large routed HO track with banked turns. We used a touch of tire glue applied to the tires only. Cars like this one drove like miniature 1/24th scale pro cars. One day I will post pictures of the track.

there was some nice stuff from the mid 70's during the "brass war" racing out on the west coast.
wish I kept some of my cars.
Gary Beedle took photos of everything we raced and had photo albums

Rodney, how did you paint the HO bodies? Did you use an airbrush, hand brush paint, or use spray cans. I could never work on something that small, but a couple of my ex-wing car friends did. It was amazing what Bruce Beaulieu & Jim Macartney did with an airbrush,
I like the workmanship that has been done on this HO chassis of yours. Are the rears silicones? That is what has been on all Northeast HO cars I've had my hands on, in a variety of different colors. Did you ever drag race HO cars too. or just run them on roundy-round tracks?
I intend to live forever! So far, so good.

Bill, most of my HO cars were brush painted back then. We liked Riggen sponge tires (with a little bit of tire glue) on the open class cars. We used AJ's silicones on the T-Jet class cars.
We did not run HO drag race cars back then. I have built and run a few HO drag race cars recently.

Bruce Beaulieu RIP great HO painter, painted these for HO Race pro Ed Bianchi.
