Well, I finally bought a new battery for the digi camera, and I am back to takin' pix and posting here.

I picked up a really nasty-looking Mako Shark body at a flea market for $5. It was dirty, moldy brown, looked totally wasted, but I took the chance as it did not look cracked or warped... after a clean-up in the sink, here it is:

It came out like new! maybe not in the pics, but the body has fine-painted details in the front and back (grill, lights) and perfect Lancer decals, never mounted. So I was going to post it here and ask - was this exact body ever used on any RTR cars? I wanted to build a period-correct car, then at a toy show I found this:

A perfect Cannon Mako Shark, and it does not appear to have ever been used. Difference - body is the same Lancer, but the Cannon issue does not have any of the fine details on the front or rear panels as the factory-painted body does. So - was this body used by any other slot car makers besides Cannon??

A company called UHP used a Mako Shark vac body on their front wheel drive car. The chassis was an AMT super stock brass chassis that was turned around backwards with an added drop arm for the guide and a rubber washer inside each hub to provide some limited slip differntial action. Gb

sportblazer350,
Here is a pic of my MPC Mako Shark.

It is not the exact body you have, but thought you would like to compare it with yours.

Lancer supplied the bodies for the Cannon Mako Shark as well as that of the UHP model. There were more than one mold for the car and the details were different from mold to mold.
Other models using the Lancer Mako Shark body: Pactra and Competition kits and RTR and Champion kits and RTR. The Pactra bodies were usually painted in light metallic silver with light metallic blue fogging.
The UHP body came in pale metallic grayish blue and later in darker blue with silver accents.
The Cannon version came in metallic brown as shown above as well as metallic dark red and metallic blue, colors matching those of other Cannon models. Cannon was the largest Lancer distributor. smile.gif
