Team RPM #1 wins for the second straight year.
94 laps back was Team MCM #1, also second for the second year in a row.
First time Classic entry "Road Warriors" came all the way from Georgia to clinch third after a great come from behind effort.
To put this in perspective the winners ran almost 3,800 laps which makes this a VERY close finish. More details to follow including pics and detailed car information.
Thanks to all 27 racers who entered. Speaking both as the promoter and one of the racers I had a blast. Just like many told me as they were leaving, "I can't wait for next year!".

No Ron, no "diaster" in the kitchen. Just had me laptop die which means I can only post from home.....and I'm not there all that much right now. That and I am busy thinking up new excuses why you beat us again..............

THE RACE
An Annual 6 Hour Enduro For Retro GT Coupe Cars

THE RACERS
The Cars
The Racing
RPM #1, as usual, came prepared to win with fast cars and fast drivers. They only had one set back during the race that needed any extended pit time. McM #1 had no incidents during the race and were equally prepared (NOT!) with their race motors arriving 45 minutes AFTER the start !! Road Warriors had some early motor problems that set them back considerably. Only after a very hard charge through the field were they able to clinch third. Grizzly Racing had a ton of talent on their team....unfortunately they also had a ton of problems. If there was a wreck on the track it was probably right in their way. I honestly don't know what problems befell RPM #2 but I know they had a very fast car. I remember Gary Haworth going by me like I was standing still. Team R.E.V. had one of the fastest cars on the track but due to a couple of "chassis mods" due to crashes they spent quite some time in the pits with a hot iron. The Geezers consisted of two of our newest Retro Racers as well as two of our oldest racers now returning to race Retro. They had a great time despite a problem filled race. Team B.A.D. included three of the nicest guys in the race. I want to give a special welcome to Don Barber who came and raced in his first Retro race. Don is a Pro racer who I raced against WAY TOO MANY years ago. He is also very wicked with an airbrush. I hope he makes more races in the future. As for their car....they had many problems during the race. Most of them, by the sound of things, involving pink plastic gears. FOR SURE nothing that happened during the race affected anyones appetite because the after race cookout had very few leftovers on the tables.Speaking for myself and Cindy we always have a great time when you all come to visit. I hope you had half the fun I did because then you went home happy. Looks like the Columbus Classic is growing. I am already working on some "tweaks" for next year. Like several of you said when you were leaving... I can't wait till next year.THE RESULTS

Probably the biggest note of all....it had a 1/8" axle instead of a 3/32" axle.
Why you may ask??? No sleeve needed for the gear...the gear seemed to run more "true".... it added one gram of weight to the rear of the car..... 1/8" bearings are low cost...... they soldered right into the bracket with no tubes needed ( one less thing to fall apart in a big crash ) and for spacers we used collars to keep the gear mesh nice through the whole race while allowing for 15 second tire changes as we never had to worry about or reset the gear mesh after a tire change.
So much for theory about running a heavier axle..... tires are easy to find and not a problem.... and we could tell no difference running the bigger axle speed wise.
We did not have a problem free race. We broke a guide flag ( lost 20 or so laps changing that ), was a rider one time ( spent 20 laps straightening the chassis is bit ) lost a front wheel ( 10 laps or so to get that soldered back on ) and had to change the crown gear once ( due to the rider crash and that took about 20 laps to fix ). We also did 10 tires changes through the race.
The previous year we ran 3,788 laps with a completely trouble free race with the faster Can-Am bodies and this year we ran 3,786 laps ( two less than the previous year ) with the above mentioned problems. I guess we made up time this year due to having faster tire changes???
