As far as I'm concerned, we can. I think that would be an excellent opportunity to assess the performance head-to-head in a real world setting. Some of the other guys might take exception to this and I'll go with the majority but I vote yes.

Allowing 4002B motors for a non-series non-points fun race?
My opinion:
This is a SERRA event. Allowing a non-legal motor would confuse and send the wrong message. If this is allowed, many who follow SERRA Rules faithfully, will be forced to purchase a 4002B for this one race.
I vote NO.
F7 or TSR motors only. Same as SERRA Rules.

Of course, if you allow the 4002B, I have one ready to go. It's legal, as is all my equipment :)

I just need to beat Pappy fair and square. :laugh2:

Pablo:

I think the operative words here are "non-series, non-points, FUN race". To be honest I'm not even planning on doing a full tech on the cars for this race. I seriously doubt there will be a real interest in cheating and if someone wants to use some .790" diameter tires from the day's race (and still has about .040" "visual clearance") I say let's have at it.

It's interesting however that you bring up the fact that someone would be forced to purchase a Pro Slot motor for the F1 Fun Race. This tends to prove Greg and My concern that it is perceived that the Pro Slot motor is faster because it's more expensive. In my experience this isn't really true, it seems to depend more on the track power and track layout as to which motor (if any) has an advantage.

Also, as I mentioned in a post above, I think this is a good chance to run the motors head-to-head and maybe clear up some of the concerns surrounding the Pro Slot vs FK motor question. Additionally I would like this chance to show "good faith" to the SERRA Racers that have asked to us to allow the Pro Slot motor in our regular series races by giving the motors an honest test for all to see.

As I said before, I'll go with public opinion here so if there are any other concerned racers this is the time and place to make your opinion known.

Let's decide which motor to use in the F1 now, up front. As I posted a month ago when I asked about the results of the SERRA questionaire. When the powers to be change the rules the week of the race, that sucks. I will not be racing in a series with the Pro Slot motors and I can save the gas and my four hour drive by deciding now. Make the decision now.

From what I've seen the Pro Slot does not have an advantage other than reliability and longevity. On tracks with a lot of short chutes the Falcons will tear them up when geared right. Some of our guys here in the Ohio Valley series still run them and do good. I did better when I ran the Falcon 7 but after I had one poop out on me after about ten laps running and I saw how long the Pro Slots ran with no problems in the 6 hour endurance race in Columbus, I switched.

I've got a bunch of Falcon 7s that have a couple of races on them that still run good but I'm afraid to enter them in a race for fear they won't make it to the end. I don't have that problem with the Pro Slot.

Raymond, you just need to chill a bit. This weekend races are Stock Car and Can-Am. Neither use the Pro-Slot. You are safe. Next month, we race F1 and Can-Am. Guess what - neither use the Pro Slot. Before you go off and blow an artery, read the post a little slower. This is not a scheduled or points race. This is just for those that wanted to race another class. There are a few people that are traveling a long way just to come to the race and they would like to run another class. When the two SCHEDULED races are over (which is the SERRA SCHEDULE for the month), then you could go home and not miss any of the SERRA planned events.

As Jay and Greg posted, the subject of the Pro Slot motors was split in the voting. The people from outside the region have these motors and use them in their series. This is a good time to compare. It sounds like you are too concerned with winning every race. The question was split down the middle. How do you resolve it in a way other that trying it? If this is not a good way of letting everyone know how these motors run, can you tell me a better way?

Raymond:

The motor choices for the 2009-2010 SERRA Racing Series are just as they were for last season with the addition of the Slick 7 "Mini-Brute" motor. The Pro Slot motor is NOT ALLOWED in the series races.

We are allowing the Slick 7 motor partly because it was approved by IRRA but also because we don't believe it will be a factor in any of our races. From all evidence it appears to be a good bit slower than the JK/TSR motors since it doesn't have the neo magnets. It's performance is similar to a Falcon 5, not a Falcon 7 or TSR.

The "Fun" F1 race to be run after the regular SERRA series races is just that, for FUN. I believe that there won't be a clear advantage for either motor so it would be great if you would hang around after the regular races and run your regular SERRA F1, that's what I'm planning on doing.

Butch,

He hasn't but I am agreement with giving 'em a trial in the after the event, "no points, just for fun" F1 race.

You see, Butch, when Jay and I met at the USRA Nats in Mineral Ridge, OH, a few years back we realized that we were twins separated at birth. We don't have to talk on the phone or via email very much, as we're linked telepathically... LOL!!!

Or is that telepathetically...

Hi Jay,

So far there is only 1 vote (maybe 2) not to allow the Pro Slot motor for the F1 Fun Race and about 7 votes to allow it. It would seem that tends to disprove yours and Greg's concern, rather than prove it. Don't shoot me, I only work here! :)

Kenny,

PM Pablo, as I think he's found a decent hotel nearby.

My understanding is that Thunder Road Raceway will be opening Friday at 2 PM for racers who want to get some practice in. Their normal Friday night closing time is shown as 11 PM.

Kenny,

Try Exclusive Quarters at 210 James Asbury Dr. NW. Their phone number is (423) 479-1333.

They are right at the #27 exit (Paul Huff Highway). If you are coming from the south, turn left when you exit I-75 and go to the Wendy's on your right and James Asbury Dr. will be on your left, right in front of Wendy's. It will be the last motel on your right before the road makes a 90 degree turn to the right. It's where Pablo is staying.

Well, I was thinking about driving up to Cleveland tonight, but it ain't gonna happen. I just didn't get enough done over the last couple of days and will have to finish up tonight. David Liebenthal is in the same boat, i.e. he wanted to get to Thunder Road today and the crush of business put him behind. We're meeting up at my place at 4:30 AM tomorrow to head up I-75 (we're leaving that early so we can stop for a spot of breakfast and still arrive at the raceway by the 8 AM opening time). Jay is on his way back home from Orlando today and will drive direct from Anniston to Cleveland early tomorrow.

SERRA™ #15 is starting to look like it is going to be a well-attended race, just like it was last year. It certainly tickles Jay and I that racers are coming from as far away as coastal Mississippi and central Ohio to join in the fun.

Just got home from Cleveland and I am pretty whipped... long, long day. Thanks again to my traveling companion David Liebenthal for playing chauffeur.

SERRA™ #15 at Thunder Road in Cleveland, TN, saw 36 entries from six states, which represents 33 percent growth in entries at this raceway over last year's SERRA™ event...

The race report will be posted as soon as I can, but I have to work tomorrow afternoon to repair the boss's computer so please be patient with your poor, tired reporter.

Don't let Greg fool you with all his "poor me" carryings-on about being tired and having to work on his boss' computer. What is taking so long is him having to come up with a plausible story to explain why one of the pit tables damn near broke in two when he sat on it :laugh2: .

Heh-heh. Don fails to mention that he was sitting on it when I eased down beside him. I was just the straw that broke the table's back...

Actually, I was just leaning against it. That's my story and I'm sticking to it.
