My friend Ray asked me to build this Manta Ray resin kit.
He gave me an Asp chassis, motor and clear body in return.
The chassis is a EJ's Revell aluminum chassis.
Mounting post are styrene plastic tubing and brass screw inserts also from EJ's.

That Manta Ray resin build up is coming up nice . Not a bad copy . Do you have the
twin exhaust pipes to go under the body sides ? Your choice of chassis was good !
Don't forget PDL that there were two Nichimo Manta Ray kits . One was sold with a
brass chassis , the other one in aluminium and the two chassis have distinct differences

Philippe ,
Very appropriate reply , congratulations for having to hand
photographs of the TWO versions and very nice too !
The Nichimo is such an accurate model of the real car that
maybe it should not be here in the 'Thingies' section .
I would guess that you would have liked the "Classic" version
if it had not taken 'liberties' with the original design .
Thanks for your prompt reply , I knew you would not forget !!

Robert- Nice job on this one! You and your friend are two lucky dudes, since he has you to help him with this really beautiful car, and you're lucky because you scored an Asp out of it! :)

Happy Holidaze!
Hope Santa or the Misses brings you a cool slot car for Christmas.
I think Ray scored the Manta Ray kit at a swap meet in MA.
There were no exhaust pipes.
The kit was the body, drivers head, clear bubble and valve cover/fuel injector.
The clear bubble was the size of half a silly putty egg with no outline as to how it needed to be trimmed.
Body had lots of sink holes and was very thick in some spots and way to thin in others.
Lots of white squadron putty and sanding.
From looking at the photos of the kit it quite possibly was cast from the Nichimo kit.
Even tough the kit was a bit rough I wish I had one for myself.

Hey Frank :D

If by chance you don't score a original Manata Ray :dash2:

I obtained a resin copy of the original body :dance3: and of course made some molds off of it ;)

Posted Image

3 different versions :good: in 3 different styles. Also, make a vac-ed version of the canopy too :dance4:

So if you don't find one ? PM me :) As I always say : " if you can't find it ? make it ! "

i-ray

PS Those old kit's are so cool
