WOW :shok: what an awesome day of racing. Noose put together another great RETRO EAST RACE. Congrats to the winners :clapping: . The podium finishes were all nail biters. Especially the A-main.
A VERY SPECIAL THANKS to Noose. He offered me a car to use because mine just wasn't fast enough. Time to re-motor my box of horsepower.LOL
I learned allot running this car. it was awesome, this RARE Sampson chassis :D was glued to the track. However I also learned that running into a car at full speed that fell in your lane is VERY BAD!!!!! :o :bomb: that was only the start. Lets just say I really F****d up that car!!!! :cray:
Thanks Lynn Sonny's was its usual great. Thanks also to my Bud Bruce, and Steve who ran my car!!!!

A special thanks to Hershman,Randi, Rick Bernardo and Uncle Larry Mattingly. You guys made a long trip. It was great..............

Well, at least you didn't place ahead of him....

Yeah, I'll be at the next one.The GTC cars are ready except for painting the bodies, and I'm finishing up a new JDGP chassis. Just bent the drop arm as per Mike Steube's post a few months ago...works great! I'm looking forward to racing on the hillclimb since it's similar to the one at Zeppelin's and I've had a lot of laps on that one over the years.

Sonny's Fast Lanes was the host to the latest Retro East Winter Series Race. They came from far and yonder to partake in the fun. We welcomed Rick Bennardo and Larry Mattingly from Western PA and Ron Hershman and Rande Marshall from Indiana.

Tech got underway and for those naysayers out there, Ron Hershman did the honors of teching my car. LOL

We had 18 entrants for Can-Am and here is the field.

Posted Image

Posted Image

Concours was won by John Molnar with Randy Kohr 2nd and Bruce Baughman 3rd.

Posted Image

We all anticipated some pretty fast times as lots of cars were jetting in practice. We waited to see if Tony P's record would be broken and Tony..it's still safe.

Bill Gerhart took TQ with a 4.471 and that extra point.

Posted Image

First up was the C Main. As many of you know, I always have a loaner car available for someone. During practice, Jersey John was kinda struggling so I offered him the loaner which he immediately fell in love with. He did OK qualifying and was ready to go at it in the C Main. It didn't take long for him to grab the lead and hold it for the rest of the race for the move-up spot to the B Main. He drove great.

C Main Results

Jersey John Molnar – 277 laps – Fast Time 4.768

Steve Vogt – 266 – 4.941

Larry Mattingly – 265 – 4.937

Bruce Baughman – 264 – 4.999

Ryan "Winston" Bruce – 229 – 5.059

C Main Podium (Steve Vogt had to leave before the picture was taken)

The B Main line up looked like it was going to be a fast one. Matt Bruce got out to the lead and we all knew he wasn't going to relinquish it so the race for the 2nd move-up spot was on between me, Ray Carlisi, Mike Katz, Rob Kurylo, and yes..Jersey John!

Ray had me by a bit until I got ahead of him with Katz hot on our heels. It was then around the 5th heat that the BAM heard around the world happened. The heat started within a few seconds we hear a really loud crash. I hear someone yell "Hey Jersey..Your Car". JJ responds with "Yeah man, it's really smooth; even better than it was!"

The problem was he was following my car and thought he was driving it. The BAM was his car turning into kibbles and bits full spewed into the deadman. Oy! I never thought he could he top his R4/2 escapade but he did with this one. We still love him. LOL

Matt flew and I managed to hold Ray off for the move-up.

B Main Results

Matt Bruce – 288 Laps – Fast Time 4.718

Noose – 280 – 4.778

Ray Carlisi – 279 – 4.780

Mike Katz – 278 – 4.941

Rob Kurylo – 276 – 4.827

Harry Boudreau – 252 – 4.718

Rick Bennardo – 245 – 4.827

Jersey John Molnar – 170 – 4.890

B Main Podium

Noose 2nd, Matt Bruce 1st, Ray Carlisi 3rd

Time for the A Main. As expected Ron and Billy got off to a very quick start and stayed close the whole race. Ron got as much as a 2 lap lead but Billy kept clawing back to try and get it closer. Randy, Dale, Jay, Matt and Chris were flying along and I brought up the rear.

Jay had some trouble and DNF while Matt, Dale and Chris were fighting for that last podium spot. In the end, it turned out to be a photo type finish as Dale was just ahead of Chris and Matt.

A Main Results

Ron Hershman – 298 Laps – Fast Time 4.557

Bill Gerhart – 296 – 4.613

Dale Granger – 292 – 4.620

Chris Radische – 292 – 4.617

Matt Bruce – 292 – 4.717

Randy Kohr – 289 – 4.667

Noose – 281 – 4.827

Jay Kisling – 109 – 4.718

A Main Podium

Bill Gerhart 2nd, Ron Hershman 1st, Dale Granger 3rd

Ron's Car: OS Ferrari 612, RPM Chassis, 7/28, Alpha Treated, 108.4 grams, Difalco

Bill's Car: OS TI22, Skunkworks Sled II chassis, 8/28, JK Wonder, 101.9, 3rd Eye

Posted Image

Dale's Car: JK TI22, Skunkworks chassis, 8/29, JK Wonder, 107.4, 3rd Eye
Posted Image

On to the Stockcars and wondering if anyone was going to get under the 2 second mark. They all were coming close and finally Chris Radische got the TQ spot with a 1.994.

Posted Image

Concours results were:

Chris Radische 2nd, Rob Kurylo 1st, Larry Mattingly 3rd

Posted Image

This was without a doubt the cleanest Stockcar race we have held yet. It didn't take long for Randy to grab the lead but Matt and Rob were jetting along too. Katz was in his usual lurking position.

Randy held on for the win.

Stockcar Results:

Randy Kohr – 653 Laps – Fast Time 1.951

Matt Bruce - 647 – 1.971

Mike Katz – 644 – 2.077

Rob Kurylo – 639 – 2.077

Chris Radische – 639 – 1.968

Bill Gerhart – 624 – 2.032

Noose – 600 – 2.140

Larry Mattingly – 530 – 2.240

Rick Bennardo – 265 – 2.308

Stockcar Podium

Mike Katz 3rd, Randy Kohr1st, Matt Bruce 2nd

Randy's car: OS Charger, Skunkworks chassis, F7, 8/28, Big Daddies, 132.6 grams, 3rd Eye

Matt's Car: OS Fairlane, Bruce chassis, TSR, 8/27, JKs, 128.6 grams, 3rd Eye

Mike's car: OS Charger, Katz chassis, TSR, 8/29, JKS, 129.4 grams, HVR Special

Some parting shots.

Those Skunkworks boys are a close knit bunch but this is ridiculous!

I think those records would have been gone a couple races ago Tony but power at Sonnys ever since replacing the bats has hovered around 13.1 to 13.3 for the retros unlike back in the day with over 14 volts. But if thats what it takes to get ya back in Jersey then we would rather just leave'm be. Congrats to Ron and Rande on a great run and I hope you can make it out again real soon. That goes for Larry and Rick too, always good racing with you. It seemed Dale, Chris and myself ran 24 mins side by side the whole way without giving an inch. That was a great race within the race.

This was truely a great race. Check out the names in the A-Main. You would not have enough fingers and toes to count the national championships ! It is always an honor to race with these guys.

It was nice to see Ron and Rande make that long trip to run with us . Thanks for coming . I like to race with the best , and you sure are.

I sure had to drive my buns off to pull out a third against two other great drivers. What a finish. Noose did you get a picture. All of us were within a section of each other :o

Also congradulations to Skunkworks driver Randy Kohr for his Stock Car win.

Thanks to Sonnys for a great place to race, I'm looking foreward to coming back. :D

Yes it was a great weekend at Sonny's. Lots of GREAT racing and GREAT racers/competitors. Tons of fun. A very competitive group of racers with several that can win at any moment.

While it was a long drive out and back...it was worth it..win or lose for me. It was great to see the usual suspects as well as meet many racers I have read about or done work for and finally get to meet them face to face.

Noose runs a great program and keeps it running right along. Sonny and Lynn were great hosts and very helpful while trying to keep up with all the business throughout the weekend.

The King track was good and it was the same for everyone throughout the program. It all came down to testing and tuning, right tire selection, driving and luck.
