After a hiatus of 40+ years, I thought it was time to start a new car collection, focusing on Sports and prototype racers from the 50's and 60's.

One of my first purchases was the Jaguar D type from Autoart.

However the driver is about 2/3's the size of the figures in my other cars..which makes me wonder if this car is to scale or the manufacturer was just sloppy.

I'm no expert, but after looking at several photos of the real D type, I'm thinking that I have a midget driver in this model.

If not, I have to conclude that my other cars are over scale.

And if I'm right that the driver figure is undersized, could anybody recommend where I might find a correct scale driver that will fit in this model.

Thanks,

Mark Huber

Philippe,

I'm just copying this from the box so I hope it helps:

13582 Jaguar D-Type Lemans 24HR Race 1955 Winner, etc. etc

The car was manufactured in China and is not vintage.. I presume it was manufactured this year.

I've attached a picture (or think I have.. I'm new to this forum and am still leaning the system.)

Thanks!

Mark Huber

When these were released one of the few criticisms was the size of the driver....but what to replace him with??

It could be a great little scratch project though.

Ulrich mini-men are vintage kits of drivers or whatever you want to make("The instant People Kit"). They come ,two figures per card and the figures are in about 14-15 pieces each , and you glue them together in any position you like. They came in 1/32 scale and were also available in 1/24. I have some 1/32 scale kits to spare or trade . I guess $5.00 & postage. PM if intersted . I will try to post some photos if anyone is interested. Gb

Yes,..well One Would have difficulty describing Any of the 'Period' Jaguar drivers as 'Slight', or 'Will 'o the Wisps'!!

Hawthorn was rather tall and Beub was Not a diminutive man,..and Heck I reckon I'd want a relatively 'Chunky' driver in My '59 C type, if I was to believe either Duncan Hamilton or Tony Rolt was the Driver !!!

I Really would have expected a Much better driver 'Rendering' than just Arms and Upper Torso,..as It sure isn't like there Isn't enough Romm under there eh!??

Such a shame,..'Auto-Art',..not Human Art,..lol

Hi

I have not seen the auto art version before. Interesting with the midget driver.

The old strombecker was way big, the others in modern times seem scale but I haven't measured them to be sure.

This is one of the Ulrich Mini-Men kits. The top left corner of the package was cut off by the dealer I bought these from, as this was where the original price was marked. Some parts are off the tree, and most of the steering wheels are fractured but everything is there and car be glued together using plastic cement from a tube(old school style). Once you glue them, you fill in the joints with glue and then paint them. Beside the card are two guys I was building. The standing guy has just gotten some flat white paint for his collar and cuffs, and he is held vertical by a small base of epoxy. The other guy is a driver. Sometimes I use the bottom half of the bodies to put under cars in the pits to look like a mechanic is underneath a car, working on it.

Hi:

Seems to me a Revell 1/32 driver figure might fill the bill also.

Fly sold 1/32 driver figures in both Modern and Classic style IIRC.
That's thirty minutes away. I'll be there in ten.

Le Mans Minitures makes some very driver figures that would work with the era of this car. I'm not aware of any retailers in the US, but the driver figure kits are available from some of the UK and French retailers. Look for either the F003 or F004 kit. I believe that each kit comes with one driver and two heads with different helmets. They're nicely detailed. Well worth the cost and effort to locate.
