Doc P,

A few months ago you mentioned that you would have parts listed for these cars. Do you have a timeframe for when they might be available?

Thank you,

Kevin

No, I never did it...
Too many other things to do and I forgot.
Anyway, I will address that soon.
We have chassis, front ends, wheels, tires, some spur gears, Eagle bodies (not sure where the windshields are), some drivers, some motors, and assembled Eagles as static display models.

I am surprised that you have the bodies. I have two McLaren's and would love to get one or two of those Eagles. I know there are some other Cox fans out there too! Please let us know when you have them listed. These are great little cars to run on my Monogram layout. Thanks P!!!

I hope I'm not opening up a catch basin here, but what are the superscale cars? I know Cox made some small scale racing cars that I heard were very well done, but that's about all I know about them. So why didn't they become popular?

1/40 scale, and the only bodies available are 1972 Eagle-Offy Indy cars, molded in red and never issued by the Cox company in that color. They were supposed to be part of a 1973 STP premium that never happened after the terrible and deadly 1973 Indy 500 where Swede Savage was killed in one of the STP Eagles. Gordon Johncock won the race in the other STP entry.
Here is a picture of the parts available, there are some more but I need to analyze what is there.

Hello, all.

I recently started getting back into slot cars again. I have 2 twin boys that love slot cars the same way I did back when I was a kid. My parents recently dug up my old 1/40 scale Cox Formula 5000 Road Race Set that my dads buddy gave me when I was 10. Almost 3 decades later and Im now playing on that same set with my boys. I forgot how amazing these cars looked and how fun they were to drive. Ive been trying to gather extra track and parts lately, but Im finding things like guide pins and tires are difficult to come by. Could anyone steer me in the right direction on obtaining these parts? It would be much appreciated. I want to keep these running for a long time. Thanks, everyone.

Hello Zack,
the only parts available are tires (FR & RR), aluminum wheels (FR & RR), chassis plate. front suspension and red Eagle bodies.
For the guide pin, it is possible to adapt a TSRF part after trimming it to fit.

Good deal. Thank you for the info. Are the parts available on the TSR site? Would a Dremel tool suffice for shaving material off of the guide pin?

Also, can anyone tell me what controller ohm setting these cars run best at?

You have two choices:
1/ you run the cars with the diodes permitting two cars independently controlled on the same lane, using the lane-change track piece(s) to switch lane: you MUST use the original controllers, each controlling only one car.

2/ You bypass the diodes on the car with a jump wire carefully soldered on each side of the diode: you can use any controller designed for HO cars, 45 ohms sounds about right. Best is of course to use Professor Motor adjustable controllers, but that would be a bit pricey, while you can then use them for most any slot car that is not using a full-race "wing car" motor with cobalt mags and the like.

1/43 scale decals would be a bit off, but would still work pretty well, right? I would like to detail my Eagle and McLaren and wanted to see if anyone has used 1/43 scalde decals on these 1/40 SuperScale cars.

They would be a bit too small. Do you know of any?

Thanks. I am afraid that they would be far too small for the Cox SuperScale Eagle and McLaren bodies, These are scans I have on file (but not fore the Mclaren I am afraid), you can file them and print them on decal paper.

Why does this SuperScale car not have the screw posts?98388A89-563D-47DF-B839-00E13B46A2C7.jpeg

I should have asked why some Cox cars had screw posts while others had the body to chassis snap in. When the car is attached to the chassis, it basically has a bottom out effect.

Zack,
the last series did away with the screw posts because the body was now held from its sides, over a modified plated steel body mount. That last series also ditched the aluminum wheels for plastic push-on. Please see below:

Ok, that makes sense. The chassis plate that came with that body did not have those raised nodules. Im learning quite a bit. 😁
