Yesterday we had the F1 and Can Am "warmup" races on the BPR King track. Last Sunday we had the Retro Pro (King) and Coupe (Flat) warmup races and two Sundays ago we had the Stock car and Jail Door races on the BPR Flat track.

Many of the racers did not participate in these races since they are "thrashing" (building) cars for the Checkpoint. Or, they already have "jet" cars and didn't want to wreck them or let others know what they have :shok:

The Jail Door and Stock car races were "Crash and Burn" since we didn't have turn marshalls!!!
Sometimes it's good to run Crash and Burn races. It reminds you very quickly that the name of the game is to keep your car in the slot!!!

Below are the podium results for all the races (except for Retro Pro and Coupe).

Don't get too carried away with the results of these races (except for Duran's win in Can Am). Just like in the old days, "race day" is a different ball game

Here's the full chassis/race report: Checkpoint Warmup Races

Jail Door "crash and burn" podium: L-R, Philippe de Lespinay 2nd, Paul Sterrett 1st, Keith Tanaka 3rd

Stock car "crash and burn" podium: L-R, Jay Henry 2nd, Keith Tanaka 1st, Philippe de Lespinay 3rd

F1 podium: L-R, Keith Tanaka 2nd, Jonathan Forsyth 1st, Paul Sterrett 3rd

Can Am podium: L-R, Howie Ursaner 2nd, Duran Trujillo 1st, Philippe de Lespinay 3rd

Good luck and good racing to everyone this coming Friday.

I would suggest, on first track call, grab Durans car and throw it into the furthest corner of the raceway.............. :laugh2: :laugh2: :laugh2:

We can't do that because Duran is a really nice kid. He is just a pro, we are but mere amateurs. :)

Yep, I knew it.... Retire from real work, & start making appearances on the podium in D3... I knew that Tanaka guy was sand-bagging...

I'm w/ Nesta, Keith.... Great job, all those podium finishes... I better stay close, so I can learn from the "old Pro" & have some of that luck rub-off on ME! LOL! :laugh2:

Jeff Easterly :)

Guys, the secret to being on the podium is racing with only 4 guys in the race :laugh2:

Crash and Burn racing also helps if someone else has car trouble :D

If I somehow make a podium in the Checkpoint, I probably should play the Lotto as soon as possible :laugh2:

Being retired hasn't made me a better racer. It actually takes away any excuses I had for not being on the podium :o

Just kidding of course.

The honest truth is: I truly am enjoying what we have going with D3 and us old racers from the past. It's very special to me
when I can have fun again with "Legends" and us other guys who love this wonderful hobby.

To the old guys, let's keep the fun going for as long as we can,

Keith

Love looking at the photos, thanks Keith.

Do have a question. Noticed a couple pieces of Lexan on the front wings on bottom one of the Can-Am cars. Is that legal in D3?

I guess as long as those pieces of tape are above the .015" clearance rule, they are OK, but I wasn't there, so it's conjecture on my part.

What is more interesting to me is the multi-axis hinging on the #2 car.

car #2 looks like the front most hinge is soldered solid inside the square brass tubing? so it would be flex movement only? I'm guessing here......

Keith great job once again on these pics, esp the close ups. :)

I wanna know about those custom crafted rear axle spacers on Duran's car

Mark,

We use the same spacers, on euro sports mainly on speed shop cars. I belive they are alum, spacers, not bearing shields.

I like those Steve. It appears those are custom cut to fit. Much better than fumbling around stacking washers. Suppose I could make some up using K&S aluminum tube. If those are several individual spacers, they sure don't look like it in Keith's pic.

Congrats on Jonathan's F1 victory. You guys are already dialed in to the D3 Retro scene. :)

I believe Rob is referring to Howie's Can Am car. The front portion of the chassis has clear tape added. I would say as long as it's .015" clearance (as Dennis Samson posted), it's ok.

I dunoo, how about these pieces? The one on the top appears to have some residue from toughing the track?

Think about it for a while, there could be some method to the madness. Pretty clever, as a matter of fact. ;)

Won't fly in IRRA, because NOTHING is permitted below the main rails. It's a double whammy, minimum clearance and the the nothing rule....................
