OK, guys, what happened to Elvis's 155' King track? And does anyone know the history of the King's slot car days?

Saw a small article in OWH that I believe John Ford wrote. Are there any pictures of it set up at Graceland?

Elvis, if you're out there chime in on this!!

It's there, several years ago I saw a picture of it taken through the glass. I did a Google images search and couldn't come up with anything other than John's article.

Wonder if there is a Elvis web site where you can ask a question on the track and get a answer form someone that knows for sure would be interesting ! Tried to find one and no luck. Happy birthday to Elvis, who would of been 75 today. Rock on!!

Some years ago on the OWH there was an article, a complete article that gave the post mortem about the track. Mom would know, it's in the archives of OWH somewhere. Another good source of information is John Ford. Touch base with him; if anyone should know he's the man!

I went through Graceland a couple of years ago and in the basement in floor to ceiling exhibits there was an open, smaller Hoffman style box and Dynamic chassis with Globe motors and sportsman style bodies from the mid-'60s era. Looked like they had 5-40 type axles with what appeared to be Buzzco tires.

My impression was that he went slot racing like he went to the movies - rented the whole place for him and his friends. No trace of a Blue King track was seen, but that is not to say they may have been one on the property at one time or another or maybe now, but I would think it is highly unlikey - too big a footprint. The house just wasn't that big, believe it or not.

From http://www.elvis.com...graceland.shtml

"A small 'breezeway' (which is enclosed, not open to the elements) was constructed to connect the main house to the new wing on the south side of the music room. The new wing initially housed a slot car track but was later remodeled to house Elvis' many awards, trophies, and other honours, as well as memorabilia, guitars, jewelry, and stage costumes. It is now known as the Trophy Building and a new entrance with plate-glass double doors was constructed at the northeast corner of the wing to provide better access for visitors."

The King died on the Throne!

7% of Americans believe that he is still alive. Same proportion as:

-the ones who believe that the moon landings (all of them) were actually filmed in a studio in Arizona.
-the ones who believe that the earth is actually flat otherwise we would fall from it.
-the ones who believe that GWB blew up the WTC towers so that his "oil buddies" could go steal Afghanistan's oil.
-the ones who believe that more glue will make better slot car racing.
-the ones who believe that the Illuminati secret society actually runs the planet.

Go Elvis! :)

Philippe,

Is it true or an urban myth that Elvis had one or more of the Steube's build him a slot car?

I do not know but knowing that the Cal pros descended on Memphis in 1967, and knowing that they visited Elvis's pad, it is highly possible.

Now the question is, if this is true, is the car still alive? :)

Go Elvis! :)

Only if Afghanistan had any oil to steal....LOL But then again he made the connection between Bin Laden and Saddam and we know the rest of that story.

Should be easy enough for one with your network of contacts to verify! Let us know what you find out. Inquiring minds want to know! Posted Image

(Plus it will make for good discussion from those "legend" Cal pros at the next D3 race.)

I wonder what prices Elvis' slot car track or his cars and boxes would bring IF they were sold on E-bay?
