I have a Revell "1/24 brass chassis kit (Part # 3311), for SP -80 Motors" ( which I believe is 16D correct?); will this chassis work on a Revell (1/25) "Lotus Ford" body kit?

Any advise is appreciated.

Tim, the SP80 is a 16D but it is can drive. These motors are getting hard to find. That chassis should fit under that body although I have not tried it. However, it is a universal chassis and the mounting holes will not line up. You would have to do some drilling, soldering and fabricating to make it work. Revell makes two slim chassis that will bolt in that body and use the more common EBD 16D. If you need pics let me know. Joe

There are two numbers for the proper chassis for the Revell Lotus-Ford and BRM F1, both the "narrow" ladder frame, stock number R1001 designed for use with the Revell-Pittman RP66 or RP77 (issued 1963), then slightly modified for use with the Mabuchi FT16 motor, part # R3310.

Thanks Doc - I recently bought a Russkit 22 from ED that I did not end up using for COX Ferrari F1 project; might that motor work in conjunction with a R 3310 chassis & Revell Indy car in question...

If not what might be the best options ( other than stock Revell)?

Thanks.

Yes, that will work fine since it is an FT16, same exacting dimensions as the Revell SP500 motor.

Hi

P, I don't know this. That is, the narrow ladder frame for these, I have seen 3 versions. The one for the pittman has different intral mounts, the sp500/510 model which came in two versions. One had 3 rear mount holes for sports cars, and a single rear mount hole for the F1s.

Most of the latter frames for the sp500 I have seen nos had both sets of mounts. I don't know what the ID codes were for either.

I too seem to remember seeing the frame with 3 (vs 1) screw at the tail...

I just hope ( and trust the direction of PdL...), that the 3310 is the "one-holer" that takes the F-1 er...Indy....body...

Hi

I own the variants, but I don't know the catalog numbers like P does.

Both Revell Cars wern't that good as models, but initially, that was what we had for a "modern F1" race. In regular F1 races in North Carolina where I was living when they came out, my Lancia Ferrari OWNED the local program. So, for grins we had a separate class for these revell cars.

Now that I have a proper and complete chassis for this build, (Thanks Lone Wolf!), can anyone tell me of a source for vintage Revell guides ( forgot about that rather fundamental part, and have now found all my other old non-Revell guides won't work owing to the small diamater opening for the guide head in the chassis)... realizing no one would likely go through the hassle of selling 1 guide, I'm in the market for 4 or 5 of them, to retro fit other vintage Revell F1's in my collection that all appear to have non-stock guides.

The TSRF universal guide is a 1/8 shaft and uses standard modern braid. Best fit, but not vintage/period correct - as if anyone cares for a good periodic driver and non shelf queen.

I was just looking at a NOS chassis R-3310-200 , appears to be MIB.The (-200) is the suggested retail price. On the box is a drawing of the 3 holed rear mount chassis, but inside the box, still sealed in the plastic bag, is the 1 hole rear mount chassis. I can't see the actual chassis # on the instruction sheet without tearing apart the plastic bag to open up the instructions, but I believe it to be original, although there is always a chance someone switched the contents. I think the 3 hole version shown on the box is the 1/32 scale chassis despite being labeled 1/24. Could be another case of false advertising, like the Cox Cheetahracha box which shows the earlier body with the side pipes or the Cox 2E iso box that shows the beautiful honeycomb wheels, which you didn't get. Anyone elso notice this? Gb

Hi

MRRC has a re-pop of the old Dynamic 659 in 1/8th shaft. In the day, five seconds after the Dynamic came out, I replaced all my other guides. Well, until Jet Flags!

Anyway, it pioneered the plug in braid and modern parma works fine.

Gary
Again, I don't know the codes. But I do remember seeing the 3 hole in the 1/24 boxes. I think 15 or so years ago, P and I were talking about this because I was looking for parts for my BRM and Lotus.

Before the kits, Revell sold all the bits separately. From America's Hobby Center, you could piece together a complete car for about 11 bucks, not counting the very expensive RP66, and that they sold a whole car for 5 bucks with a mabuchi was a wonder in my circles!

In any case, while I know that the single post was specifically for the F1 body, that the 3 hole was sold as a "universal".

The aluminum (and not Brass...) chassis with 3 holes at the rear will not fit in the Lotus or BRM F1 body.

It is larger.

It goes in the Lotus 23 for instance.

I borrowed a picture by Don Siegel to illustrate the correct chassis for the Revell open-wheel cars:

Helpful photo; sure wish I had a car with the Revell Pittman ( sold all my RP motors before realizing they could be used in this frame...).

The Revell Pittman motors show up on Ebay frequently.

and they're generally pretty cheap! Ditto for Revell guides - they were just about the only ones easily available for a year or so, so you find Revell guides in lots of old cars and parts lots...

Hi

The RP 66 has the same tapped holes, size and so on as the Pittman DC60, 62, 63, 63m and 66, any of those can be fitted.
