I was about to throw this in with a lot of old brass chassis to sell when I took another look... A pretty well done anglewinder chassis, ca 1969 I'd say, engraved Shamrock... Anybody know anything about these?

Nice looking chassis Don, too bad we do not know more about it.
Is the the word SHAMROCK engraved or stamped ( do you have a loop). If it is stamped (COBRAs were stamped) it would lead me to think it is low production. Or has it been taken to a trophy engraving place do you think?
I looked again and noticed the last K is out of line so It may of been stamped with letter stamps by hand?
Please let me know if you would be willing to sell it to me? I like it in its 69 patina.
Martin.

Hi Martin,

I do in fact have a "loupe" (magnifying glass), but can't say that I understand any more than before if it's stamped or engraved! However, I did find a clue that leads me to believe that the Butler did it!

If you're interested, send me a PM and maybe we can make a deal...

The more I look at it, the more it seems that it must be some kind of local, small production chassis.

Hi

I would guess more like late 70.

In the day, most tracks had a couple guys using off the shelf drop arms and such and building frames for people. If you didn't have one from a local pro or a out of town pro, the manufactured options were a lot slower. This is probably for a raceway with short tracks, a Black or Orange perhaps. I would see if there is front to back movement.

Could it be European? My father raced slotcars in the early '70s and some shops in Holland made their own parts then. Shamrock Modelbouw in Maastricht was one of them, the chassis or part of it could be made by them. I will ask my father if he recognises the chassis or remembers anything about Shamrock.

It appears that the "K" is out of line with the other letters. I would bet this is a hand built chassis that has been "hand stamped" with a set of punches and a hammer. It could just be a production chassis stamped by someone that wanted to identify personally or for their team etc.. "Irish Mafia Racing" Codenamed "Shamrock"

Left side drive.. early 70's I would guess.

Don, I think you are closer to the date of 1969. Axle size of 1/8 or 3/32 would help with dating also.In England we were using 1/8 axles into 1970. I never saw 3/32 as my local track closed on me.
Those split side pans was a narrow window of time. But it is interesting how certain trends were slower to catch on in different parts of the world. For me I was glued to the Model Car rags, looking to the US for what was hot.

it is a British (or Irish) chassis, hand made in small numbers in 1971 by a fellow who advertised them in one of the old British mags.
I remember have seen a picture of one a long time ago. By the way, it is not that great of a build... ;)
Maybe I am too picky, hey? :)

It's 1/8 axles all around. Kind of hard to evaluate something like this 30 or more years later because you don't really know what's happened to it in the meantime - whether it's been resoldered, etc. But it is a very solid build.

Shamrock in Holland made a similar chassis. My father could not remember any details, so this one could also be the British Shamrock that Philippe mentioned.

Just got a call from a Dutch guy who raced one of these chassis in the early 70s, and who bought it from the Shamrock shop, which stamped their name on it for advertising...

Hello Don
I am the Ductch guy who spoke to you yesterday.
After 35 years back in slotracing again.
I remember this chassis very well , because i stamped the letters ''SHAM ROCK" in it,
It was the shop s name and the only shop in the netherlands who imported all the latest goodies in pro slotracing back in 1973

The guy in the black leather jacked with the white slotcar thats me.
And the chassis under the white body is the actual frame on the pics above.

Love have it back, Restore it and Race it a few laps again
on one of the last two wooden slottracks here in the netherlands.

Thanks for the photo Marcel! Very, very 70s, back when we all had hair...

I have to try to find the chassis, and can't remember where I put it, if I still have it. Will check first candidate boxes now!

Now, THAT is history! :)
Don, stick that thing in a tumbler to give it back its youth because the patina on it is a bit U-GLY! :D
Marcel,
In case Don let you have it back, do you have the bits to put it back together?

Still haven't found it yet - can't remember where I put all these chassis, or if I still have it.

The search continues...
