I used to do a lot of air-brushing. Mostly posters though. Hot cars, motorcycles, etc., but I'd never painted a slot car body.

Well I saw some Faskolor bottles of paint at the slot car track and it piqued my interest. I already had a nice Paasche airbrush (out in the garage somewhere) so I started searching for a small air brush compressor. I finally found a used one for $18 on eBay. I got the compressor and totally rebuilt it. It was in pretty good shape thankfully.

Then I went into the garage to find my airbrush. It's a bit of a mess out there andc ultimately I could not find it. Crap, now what do I do? My brother came to the rescue. He heard I was looking at airbrushing again & he sent me a new Paashe VL. Thanks, bro!

I had to buy a regulator/water trap and hook that all up. Last night I finally had all the pieces together to try air brushing again. Yes!

It all came back like ducks to water. I was amazed at how accurate you could be with your paint spray. Excellent for getting into tight slot car body crevices.

Here are my first two air brushed slot car bodies:

I cant wait to buy more paints and bodies!

If you haven't tried it yet I've found that you can thin the Fast colors paint just a fudge. This seems to give me a cleaner line when fogging such as what you have done on your bodies. It doesn't take much to thin....If you go to far thinning you can compesate by dropping the air pressure. I run right about 50 psi not thinned and I reduce that by 10 psi or so thinned.

Hope this helps,

Jerry,

Not sure if you are aware but Formula 409 cleaner works great to thin Faskolor water based paint.
Give it a try, its all I use.

Thanks for the suggestions guys! The paint thinner ideas are great.
I'm hooked! I bought a few more bottles of paint & a couple more clear bodies.

I have always just used the good old spray bomb with the rattle can.

What is a good airbrush and compressor if I want to start airbrushing? I want something cheap yet ellegant.
Also, is FastColor the way to go over laquer?

Thanks

Since Faskolor is water based it can go over lacquer or enamel. I assume you are painting lexan so if the first coat you put on is lacquer you should have no problem with a follow up coat of faskolor. I used Jairus advice and thinned with Windex.
