Hi, everyone! :D

Ed Miller recently sent me a 1/32nd scale body that represents the dirt track cars so popular around the various venues in America...

"Jeff, we run Parma Womps & Champion Thumpers, but I'd like a scratch-built car... Can you build one?"

Well, the weather co-operated, & we had a nice, sunny day on Tuesday, so....

Pretty much a shaker-plumber chassis, using .062 piano wire main & half-rails, w/ a 3/4" x .062 brass nosepiece, & some .032 x 1/2" wide sidepans... Plumber hinge is 3/32" tubing, just ahead of the front axle... Plumber rails are .055, so they wiggle a bit... The bite bar is .055, & it's floating, inside the 2 pcs. of 3/32" square tubing, & the 1/4" x 3/32" rectangular tubing on the main rails ... Powered by a JK II, it's geared 8-31, 48-pitch... I still enjoy running 1/8" axles, & I had a pr. of old ball bearings, so in they went... My buddy Ron Kiyomura 'revived' the aging pr. of Alpha Red Dot 13/16" rears, & the fronts are the tried-&-true Pama 3/4" Womp units... I used a cut-down Parma 'Blade" guide flag, & some wire I recently found for power leads... As shown, it weighs-in at 93.3 grams... The 'interior' is a pc. of note paper, folded to hide the running gear while looking thru the windows, & held in the body w/ clear packing tape. .... Ed mailed me the body, & I built it up to fit as best I could... ;)

On the Chico flat-track at BP Raceway, it runs very well.... Lap times are in the low 6's, & it handles great... Should be a fun car to race, against the Womps & Thumpers ....

Thanks, everyone.... Take care, & good racing! :D

Nice chassis and it looks like fun.
One question, Isn't the Falcon motor spinning the wrong way?

It won't be legal, or taken seriously at any of the major PA oval tracks and series...

Years of tradition running womps in their modified classes.

And an anglewinder... :shok:  Please... Might have had a chance with an inline 'offset... ;)

Nice build,however.

Jeff, that car came out nice! That's one of two modified bodies Champion made. Don't be too surprised if Ed sends you the other for a second car.

Jeff, try setting up the chassis so the fronts just clear then leave enough (about .25") slop in the side to side movement in the front axle so it will act as an outrigger going into the turns and aid weight transfer. When the chassis begins to roll, the outrigger action will stop it and transfer the weight back to the inside of the chassis. The into the corner transitions will be much better.

Yep... That FK motor is timed CCW, can-drive.... It's plenty fast, & runs cool, so I'd wager that Ed will run it, & enjoy it... I ran the car hard last night, & it wasn't even warm! LOL! :laugh2: ...I built it for the 'normal' JK rotation, but the JK II's I have on-hand are reverse-rotation race prizes... Hey, it's STILL a winner! :D

Hi, Mike! ;) ...I'll let Ed tune on it.... It ran well, on the BP flat track ...

Hey, Nesta! :laugh2: .... It will ALMOST full-punch the doughnut! .... :D

Jeff,
Another great build  !!! Your work is top notch we look forward to racing this here on our track. :D I'm sure it will be great!
Can't wait to get his baby in the mail and show the other racers here how the west coast builds chassis.

Larry M. you are correct ,other tracks this will not be legal because its an anglewind chassis ,but also in classes here in Pa. it would not be legal because it is not a parma whomp ,or champion thumper chassis. BUT here at our tracks we have different builds and different classes. This chassis should be so smooth on all tracks and we will have alot of FUN with this and more builds. :shok:

Jeff thank you for all of your hard work & your time and skill is appreciated, we here in Pa. in the newly founded E.O.R.S. will look to having alot of fun racing this chassis. You build all of your chassis to race not just for show.

In case anybody is wondering E.O.R.S. stands for Ed's -Oval -Racing- Series

We have fun racing slot cars.

Thanks, Ed !! :D Kind words, for sure....

Everyone who drove the dirt car Wed. & Thurs. night commented on how much fun it was... I had fun building it... Running it thru the corners on our Chico flat-track at BP is a blast! :)

It'll go out Monday... Hope your weather improves soon! :D

Jeff,
Your chassis building ability amazes me, It is a work of art for you. I'm so glad that we have such a great forum here @ Slotblog. We have met so many nice people on this forum along with the fact that everybody shares their knowledge ,not like on other forums.
That dirt body is one of many different styles that I have ,along with our own Laminated paper dirt mod that we can make personalized for anybody,we made one last year for NOOSE.
Job well done and we cannot wait till it arrives here in Penna.
Our weather for the next several days is cold but the snow melts some during the daytime, now they are saying more snow tues/weds. of this week.We are ready for spring.

Take care,

Hi Jeff,
I had several people run this Dirt Mod last night, they could not believe how smooth it ran,and how it held to the track:D. I also took the body off of it to show them your work of art and they were amazed at your chassis work and your soldering work.:shok:
Your work is top notch and we enjoy running your builds,we look forward to more projects with you.

Thank you,
