A couple of months ago I had the good fortune to meet Chris Wright through this forum. He provided me with some wise tips and great advice as I muddled through a few projects. Perhaps a week or two earlier, I had discovered Chris' web site, Beardogracing.net and noticed a picture of his scratch built Brabham Climax. Anyway, one thing led to another, and I mentioned to Chris that it was a shame that no company (to my knowledge) had built a decent Brabham Repco specifically the BT-19 of 1966. Jack's 1966 car has a special place as it was one of 3 cars (the 1965 BRM p261 and the 1965 Lotus 33 being the other 2) that made me a real fan of Formula 1 racing 40+ years ago.

So, skip forward 43 years and I've acquired a trio of BRM slot cars and a Monogram Lotus 33, but I can't find an Atlas Brabham, to say nothing of a Supershells model, and even if I could, I wouldn't know how to convert it to the potent hot rod BT19.

Chris suggested that he might be willing to give it a go. From what I had seen of his work, I had no doubt that if he did, I'd be the proud owner of a true collector's item.

Needless to say, I'm really pleased to have this car in my small collection. What's even better, is to have had the opportunity to learn more than a few insights from Chris. It's a real treat to have folks like Chris willing to share some of their knowledge both of the art of scratch building as well as some of the history of the cars of that golden era, with rookies like me.

So here's the car. I trust that the creator of this work of art will find some time to tell you how he did it. Posted Image

I'm completely ignorant concerning correctness of scale, color, markings blah blah blah. All I know is craftsmanship and beautiful work, and your Brabham sure looks like beautiful craftsmanship to me!Posted Image That's one handsome car as far as I'm concerned!

BEEYOOTEEFUL, Mark!

I always liked the BT-19 over the '67 BT-20. And, yes, how DOES one get those exhaust headers?! Me want!

Hi Mark,

Chris is one of the best there is IMHO. That gorgeous Brabham speaks for itself…simply amazing. I have a couple of his Bear Dog pre-painted kits that are wonderful too.

Ooops! One point subtracted for non-realism........ the roll bar extends above the driver's head. Back in the day, that NEVER would have happened! :laugh2:

Chris can tell the story about the exhaust headers, and the injection trumpets, and pretty much everything else. I took notes and chatted with him while he was doing the build, but I don't want to get the details wrong or muddled.

He's got quite a story about the roll bar too. Posted Image

A close up of the exhaust headers. As I understand it, handcrafted with plastic tube, a Bic lighter and lots of patience. Posted Image More patience than I would have, that's for sure.

Afraid of that! :) A set of those headers sure would look good on a Jail Door F-1!

Looking at all that work that got into that project and the finish of that car, I have to look for words that I don't posses. ;)
Thanks Mark for your hard work making it.

Nesta,

The only "hard work" I did on this car was talking Chris Wright into designing and building it.Posted Image I'm happy to show it off, actually more than happy; but the kudos go to Mr. Beardogracing!

I'm going to wait at least a year (okay maybe 3 months) before I suggest that he really really needs to build a Matra MS80 for me! Posted Image

Cheers!

Bryan Warmack built this one a few years ago from a Lancer 1/24 scale BT19 shell:

The exhaust pipes on the Repco-Olds engine are made of curved aluminum tubing. The intake stacks are properly oriented on the Repco single-cam heads, and made from machined rivets. The driver is painted with Jack's famous "gold-stripe" raind suit that was given to him by Esso (Exxon) for the 1966 season.

WOW!

Beautiful work Bryan :) .

Please not that the scribbling on the nose is Jack's actual signature that I got for Bryan during a trip to Australia directly from the great champion.
