Longwood, Florida
Kenny Holton's ASR Indoor Motorsports was the home to the first GRRR retro race held on actual Florida soil or swampland, depending on how you look at it. Florida's newest raceway is pretty awesome, with a wonderful "drivers" blue King and a Hillclimb, with a promise of a dragstrip in the not so distant future.
Now you have to understand that only three people in Florida run retro: Rick Moore, Marty Stanley, and myself and the first two races were held four-plus hours away from us in GA which had teriffic turnouts with the Smoky Mountain and SERRA guys attending. We knew the entries would be low but you have to start somewhere. The good news is a lot of people showed up to check out retro and we were glad to have Terry Tawney officially join us. Too bad all the other guys with JK specs I raced with a few months back when I first got down here could not make it. We can only grow from here.
A special thanks goes out to Joe Hutson and Steve McBride from making the trip from GA for the race... Although I am not sure Stan remembers much of Saturday night... LOL
Marty Stanley choose not to race to handle tech and run the whole deal. Great job, Marty, especially with the race announcing!
JK SPEC
Concours was a tonyp rattle can and sharpie mess vs the Noose work of art on Rick Moore's car.
JK Spec Qualifying:
This old wino wandered in off the street and put his car on the pole.
tonyp 4.901 spec
Rick Moore 5.056
Kenny Holton, 5.548
Terry Tawney, 5.555
JK Spec A Main
What can I say, I loaned my spare to Rick, I had him cover until his motor started to fly as mine faded. Nothing I could do but watch him go by in the end. Rick once again drove a great race turning a faster lap in the race them TQ time. Terry Tawney got a good third with an underpowered car. Great drive, Terry...

My TQ and second place car. It was a rocket until the motor gave up the ghost in the sixth heat. Really went up the donut. Same set-up as Ricks above.
Terry Tawney's third place car. Torsion style JK chassis self-built. Terry is one tough customer and just needed a bit more horsepower. A great guy to race against...
Time for the cute dog picture...
GT COUPE
The GT Coupe field- all different!
My GT Coupe with a Noose-painted Lola T70 won best appearing.
Stan Hutson's Chevron was voted most realistic.

Dan Artman's former King track looks great. The 'old style' Ogilvie King may be the 'best' retro track out there.
We should have never left this track get out of the OH-PA region...

Alright, all you FL slot car racers need to step up and at least bring your Flexi-GT's and get in on some of this premier racing GRRR is putting on. There are usually loaners available for the scratchbuild classes too. You just might decide to build one of your own; JK Spec is a great class to start. And don't worry about burning your fingers; a frosty beverage nearby is a good remedy, and besides you will build up calluses eventually…
Looking forward to seeing many of y'all at GRRR # 4 at the Viper Pit.

Note to self, Don't loan Rick anything. LOL...
Tony,
Ain't that just a little late? I mean you lent him a TSR motor at GRRR #2 and he went out and whipped up on everyone in the GT-Coupe category then. His car, my tires and your motor! H'mmm, I think I see a pattern emerging here! Don't you?
BTW, if you have no problem, I'd like to suggest we make "Big Joe" the official mascot of GRRR. His 'official title' would be "Gator Baiter".
Gator Baiter
So the question is what will you be lending to Rick up at GRRR #4? Everyone is waiting for your answer!
I mean you lent Kenny Holton your backup GT-Coupe car and he went and TQ'd you! You need to talk to some of the other guys - they all lend their slower cars out. But not you! You always give your best car to the competition!
BTW, I've been chasing Terry Tawney around the track for years. You don't have to explain how tough he is! Once we teach him a little bit about chassis, well just you watch out!

Seems like Tony's fadin' fast; are your Depends on too tight?
I'm one to talk; ain't been to a track in over a month.

A Big THANKYOU to Marty for running the show and doing a great job announcing. He also generously loaned me one of his cars to run in GT-Coupe. It was a dream to drive. He had warned me before the race that the motor was going south and I could replace it if I wanted to. I decided a little less power wouldn't be such a bad thing the first time around. I hope I managed to stay out of everyones way.
I would like to also thank Bill Pinch for the great paint job on my concours winning flexi. And of course Kenny Holton for the fantastic racing facility!!
