A Detroit Slider

There were two "Detroit Slider" kits back in the day. One by Midwest and the other by Dyna-Rewind. Both were sold as a bag of brass and wire which required assembly. That means that any two built "Detroit Sliders" will have differences depending on the individual builders. For this car I chose to bring all four wires together and wire wrap the joint for maximum strength. My chassis replicates a Dyna-Rewind by the way....
The slider portion moves and changes the wheelbase from 4.25 to 4". The rear axle to guide distance will not change.
There is no body movement on this chassis other than moving back and forth, so if wheel hop becomes a problem.... I might have to make a new plan!

Last year I did that as well. The first car became my entry and the second went to Jaak. Currently Jaak's car is beating the crap out of my entry, so this year I figured I would go to school on the first car and make my car the SECOND car built.
Learned a bunch of stuff building this car.... the first of which is using slightly smaller dia. wire for the rear slider rods. This allows a tiny bit of movement at the back and lessens the sliding friction.
The body above is by Eldon "Gene-I-can-carve-anything" Adams. It is what he calls a "Shinoda P" and was carved from a tiny little image on page 33 of Model Car & Racing April 1968. This is the very first pull of that body and I believe the first to hit this forum. Hope to get it painted tonight....
The chassis is a replica of a Detroit Slider.
Motor: NOS vintage Dynamic.
Rear wheels: Riggen.
Guide: Dynamic.
Gear ratio: 8/31.
Rear Oilites: Champion.
Lead Wires: Champion.
Front wheels: ?

Of course the possibility exists that someone could purchase this one off eBay, enter it and beat the snot out of my car.... but then I have the knowledge that "I built it" at the very least!
Paint is all Parma Faskolor. Which is anything BUT fast! Started painting last night and because it takes sooooo long to dry I had to finish it up this morning. BUT... due to the fact that "Firefly" broke from using lacquers on it's PETG superbus body.... I decided to stay safe. (Same plan for O2R's body BTW)
On to the next project...

I think it came out well too.
Already sold this afternoon strangely enough! Less than 24 hours after I put it up I had three offers. One gentleman from Germany who missed out by about 5 minutes wants me to build ANOTHER ONE, as he said, "close to that one as is possible"!
Already contacted Gene for the body, have the rear wheels and looking for the rest of the equipment. Might have to go with a straight brass wire frame since Dynamic motor pods for the 16D are getting very HARD TO FIND.

After a bit of begging and searching for bits to make a close copy I came up with this:
Huge Thank-You to Gene for the beautiful body once again and to Pablo for the Dynamic motor pod. Most of the rest I had and are/were NOS, with new rubber on those Riggen rear wheels.
Enjoy!
