After that fantastic and filling cookout that Aaron and Nicolette Scott provided for all the racers, many felt like calling it ‘siesta time’ rather then racing time. But tech opened up right away and folks started prepping their cars for the GT Coupe event.

Here is the field for GT Coupe – Seven entries with a mix of Falcon 7 and TSR motors.

Remember now that we have all these really nice Ralph Thorne Racing custom designed plaques to give away to our Top Qualifier. Ralph Thorne must have a really large collection on his wall by now, but does not stop trying to put more into the collection. I now know why Ralph Thorne does such a great job on the plaques; he simply loves to take a lot of them home with him. He was the top qualifier for the Can-Am race and also showed everyone the fastest time around the Engleman for the GT Coupe event. Once again, he holds the GRRR record at The Viper Pit for fast laps. His 5.013 is the mark to beat now.

Qualifying times for the Can-Am race on 5/29/2010 at The Viper Pit

After completing all the judging and qualifying, it was time to race, and race we did! The names were entered into the computer, drivers moved to their respective position at the driver’s stand, and the countdown to green was started.

I don’t think Ralph Thorne even glanced in his rearview mirrors in this race. After getting overtaken by Jay Guard in the Can-Am race, Ralph went all out for the win on this event. Ralph started on Red and was down a couple of laps to Jay, who started on the Blue lane. At the end of the first heat, Jay held a 2 lap lead over Ralph. I think that was about to change as Ralph was very serious about revenging the loss in the Can-Am event to Jay Guard!

When heat #2 started, Jay stumbled a bit on the Purple lane, and Ralph hit the afterburners in his car on Green. He ran the fastest lap time of the race with a 5.278 and bested the number of laps that Jay Guard put on to the counter most of the time. Jay Guard did put the most laps on the counter in any one segment with a total of 33!

Here are the results from the race:

Let’s do a quick recap here... Ralph Thorne 1 / Jay Guard 1. Will it stay there or will there be another win for one of them?

Stay tuned for the Flexi GT results from The Viper Pit!
