Back in '65 when I was twelve years old I visited a hobby show and saw my first slot car... a Scalextric Lotus 16.
Since then I have carried that shape in my mind and now it has emerged as this...

I have tried to make nice looking car rather than an historical replica.
The mechanicals are mostly BWA, urethane tires, and chassis by my hand.
Maybe I should have cut out the cockpit and driver to fit a separate one but I didn't and have moved on to other things now.

Munter,

That's a sweet car and a good copy of your childhood memories. Love the finish of the car and I can see why you got that image stuck in your memories. ;) Mine was a Vette by Revell.

What can I say about memories?

VERY nice, John! Gotta love them skinny tires!

I think we really need one of these in 1/24. Yes, I surely do. Hm.

Hi

I have both the scaley and the new Cartrix in 1/32. I was never fond of the car, but love racing the era.

As I was identifying with M's nostalgia, however, and Duffy's response, I had a bad thought. My favorite Lotus, which I have scratchbuilt in 1/32 and back in the 50s in 1/24....the 18 is in a "gap". I don't remember seeing an actual issue.

VIP did a out of scale 18, but otherwise, I don't know of a commercial Lotus 18. In 61, I avidly followed the stirring duels with Moss in the 18, the 18/21 and 21 versus the overwhelming sharknoses.

The 21 was done though the car itself was hopeless. And Ron Knight did some bodies which no one actually got to use... So, the 21 is another Lotus in the gap.

Here's what I got on the 18. The drawing shows section lines but no sections! If you can find me enough photos, I can carve a plug.

Ohhh, now, that's just nasty.

Spent a happy afternoon tuning up my Jalopy for tonight's race AND collecting pix & data of the 18. I'll get some wood tomorrow and see what I can whip up before my next shipment of divers obligations to Dilworth--and now, it would probably be nice to return this thread to 1/32 Lotus 16 talk, y'think?

Thanks Guys...any feedback is good feedback.

Looks great but do the skinny tires trip in the slot???

Actually no....I have had that problem with skinnier(?) tired cars but this one skids round nicely.

regards

ps Fate, have you seen the Lotus 18 resin body available from Pendle...it is 1/32 though

Hi

I have not seen it. I scratchbuilt one for me in 1/32 in Walker Colors perhaps 15 years ago. I would guess that 85% of my stuff is 1/32.
