Just finished this chassis for a body that I painted a few months ago and thought that a few of you might like to check it out!

Jairus, really wonderful work on a number of different levels.

What can you tell us about the attachment of the front axle to the chassis. I've never seen such a design before. What's the thinking behind it?

It wasn't until while in the shower this morning (I can't sing. ) that I realized it was a MAX chassis. Clever design and well-executed Jairus! :) :)

Wow, that is a beautiful job! It took me a moment or two to recognize the Max theme too, but that is just too cool!

I wonder if anyone still has photos of the first frames that Jairus posted here? The comparison between then and now is a true "metamorphosis", from caterpillar to butterfly.

Well, thank you, Dennis! Actually, I would rather forget those first frames, most of which have been torn down and parted-out for future projects. Practice makes perfect!
Thank you all for the comments but it was Maximo who designed the frame, I simply followed his drawing.

Non-scale, or is that non-representational stuff?, often fails me.

But a different story here . . . that combo, particularly from the side angle, the colors, the front wheels, and scallops . . . is amazing.

Its been said so many times . . . I'll say it again; your work is incredible (and fast, too!). Is their no end to the twists you come up with?

More scallops in the future please . . . a little Figoni et Falaschi?

So how did you do the "AX" in MAX? Drill and file or "laser"? I wanted to do that in the drop arm with a lightning bolt but wasn't sure how to start! :?

I drilled holes at the ends and used a Dremel and files to cut the area out between the holes.

It sure looks good enough to have been stamped with a die but I bet with the use of a drill bit, jeweler's saw, and some needle files you'd be well on your way to creating that lightning bolt.

And posessing an artist's ability to concieve of the finished product, and then to transfer it to the working materials certainly doesn't hurt, either!

Again, Mr. Watson, a masterpiece . . . after three weeks of dealing with this flu bug, your handywork has me itching to resume my toil at the workbench!

Greg, I guess I missed this question. Sorry, dude!
The front axle attachment is simply a matter of getting as much material around that axle to solder to in order to make it solid. That is why the main rails bend over like that, so that the axle can be soldered from the top and bottom. Also running the 1/16" pin tube across full width and attaching it to the axle doesn’t hurt either . . .

Bob,

That is the ultimate compliment! You indeed get it!

Jairus is a dedicated and articulate craftsmen who endeavors to excel like so many others here like yourself and Steve Okeefe and Rick Thigpen to just name a few. The cars that you gentlemen have built in the past has layed the inspiration and influence of the cars of today. These efforts are indeed undertaken to make cool thingies that would do Larry Shinoda proud and further equip La' Revolution!
