Does anyone make Lexan 1/24 Touring Car bodies like these?

I think they would be much better to race than NasCrap. 4 or 4-1/2"

I think the cars would work well with more downforce than Nascrap, and chicks dig 'em, too!

Mike,

JK used to make quite a few Touring bodies in 1/24 scale and stick-on decals to decorate them. I don't know if he still does or not, but they weren't very popular to run locally. Any cars that I ever drove with them, drove similar to a NASCAR, but didn't have any more downforce. :)

As Bill said JK used to have them

For current stuff try Betta or BPA. I think Barney Poynor has been bringing in some Betta? You can also try ABSotsport

Hiya,

One of our racers here in NZ, Gill Andrews, has just made a mold to make the Falcon and Commodore Touring Car bodies. They look nice. His website is Hobbies Plus.

Cheers,

Hi

Ya, years ago I used to run the JK Alfa body in the sedan class. Not even as much downforce as a retro body.

Obviously not, if there looking at running it. Years ago when JK first came out with them we dropped the stockcars and ran them because they're different.

Besides in 1:1 Nascar is doing such an excellent job :laugh2: Gee lets have this "chase" format so only who's on the "buble" with a couple of races before the "Chase" is the only excitement. Oh, I'm sorry who has the most wins when the chase starts is the other. It grows tiresome listening to the media talk about Kevin Harvics lead like it means anyting when everyone knows it will be reset in a couple of races. Add 1-1/2 mile D shaped ovals, Green White Checkerd finishes, Cautions that "always" appear 20 laps from the end, wave around, full course cautions on road courses:laugh2: and just about evryting Nascar is doing to make it "intesting" is chasing real race fans away.

Sorry for the off topic rant

So, they're different. Big whoop. Who cares...

NASCAR? Last time I checked, despite a dip in attendance and TV ratings, the Cup Series is STILL the most popular form of motorsports going in the US.

Even the NASCAR Nationwide Series outdraws any of the bore course series like American LeMans etc... ;)

Flem, you might find some lexan bodies suited to your interests on one of the Australian websites. Cheers!

C'mon Rob, you can do better than that... :laugh2:

The crowd for the Watkins Glen IRL race were disguised as trees. One can only imagine the multitudes attracted by the normal bore course series...

For better or worse, NASCAR is the only 'big time' racing left in the US.

Hi

I would argue that the vast majority of slot car racers have little or no interest in the cars being "modeled". They want a racing device to win races with. Most don't want to build either.

Some years ago in a "1/32 sprint car series"... of course no silver cup car has a 96"/3" wheel base like the cars did. And no one knew anything about "BEAST" or anyone. And..this is the good part, my car had a Dubro 1/24 MIDGET body on it...and no one ever noticed. They protested the speed and handling, they protested my motor, they protested all sorts of things, but never the body.

They just didn't know.

This was actually the same time we had a 4" "nascar" class. My buddy, Mike Kelly, is a hard core Tifosi and wanted something other than a chebby. I found the JK Alfas and that was close enough for him. AND....no one in the NASCAR races noticed that our Chevy was an Alfa!

That, of course is YOUR opinion... :)

Still way more popular in the US than anything else, including touring cars... :shok:

My point is that it would be easier to interest people in racing a class people have heard of...

Bore courses suck...

Don't know where you've been racing slot cars for the last 40 plus years but it's all "bore course" based?

Starting with Retro the three most poplular classes ( Can-Am, F1 and GTC ) are road course cars. If you take USRA / ISRA racing than the most popular classes are LMP or GTP based. Yes the USRA has both 4" and 4-1/2" Stockcrap classes, but they usually don't have the entries of other classes.

Nothing against Itch's SCORE / USSCA Nat's but what has the participation been?

Rob says: Nothing against Itch's SCORE / USSCA Nat's but what has the participation been?

Thread drift coming:

Rob, where is the participation in most of slot car racing today? Pointing out Itches deal is not fair. The recent USRA "Nats" had a few classes that all that was needed to make the Main, was to show up. This was the biggest race in the US for decades.

You pointed out the most popular classes in ISRA too, if you look, they are probably also the most economical to race? no? yes? I don't think it has anything to do with body shape, nearly as much as it has to do with economics.

IMO, one of the reasons Retro is popular is because you can race the car with a motor that is resaonbly priced and not need to buy a car then change it over to a motor that costs more the complete car cost, in the beginning.

I would be willing to bet if USRA and ISRA would mandate that their lower classes use a sealed motor and that motor has to refurbished at an approved center, the numbers would go way up. Racers like to race, but many do not want to also spend the time and money for a motor program.

The second item that makes for larger turnouts at the retro races is the everybody runs a main format. From the last 3 years of my participation in retro, the largest numbers are always at everyone runs the main format, over the qualifying seedng format. Just my observation.

I don't think body style/type is important.
