We already knew how rare the Pactra BRP-Ford model, issued in 1967, was, but now comes this Competition version of it, with the usual simpler body with simpler paint scheme. Well, this one showed up on E-Pay at a modest price, its only flaw being a body crack at the back, that we will fix using the usual method. The Cox rear wheels will of course be replaced with the proper Pactra items.
Nowhere in the Pactra or Competition literature does this model appears, showing how much there was in way of disorganization in the waning days of what had been a huge business.
The Competition version uses a different but similar chassis from the Pactra model, both Iso-Fulcrum designs. As usual for Competition models, a Mabuchi FT16D is used, while the Pactra uses the more expensive Hemi X88 MK2 motor. Both use the rare later guide flag, very similar in design to that of Cox.
This is an extremely rare model, in fact the first we have ever seen, and the few bids clearly show that few were aware of its rarity. Which makes the low price attractive for our museum as we are not made of money and do pay sales tax on our yachts.
You can see the Pactra version below, painted in metallic orange with silver backing and fogging:
