This also was in the box of stuff. Anyone have any information on this one - is it worth cleaning up, too?

I noticed that the box that the cars were in has a name of "Hoffman 1100" marked on it as well.

Thanks again.

My personal opinion is that it's worth more unrestored and left as is. A survivor from the golden era of 1969!

I agree with Jairus. They are only original once and for me an original anything is far more desireable than a restored one.

What you need to know is that Lee Gilbert was one of the top pro chassis builders... this car is a "keeper"!

Early '69, still has the inner shim in the can and 1/8" axles.

I'll mention to Lee this Friday that you posted this.

Eric,

Lee Gilbert is one of the grand old men of slot racing. He wrote numerous articles, primarily on chassis building, in the slot car magazines of the late '60s-early '70s. Check out this THREAD.

Lee is still building slot car chassis today, and specializes in the Eurosport classes.

I noticed a name scratched into the bottom of one of the first chassis you posted and I see that the body is this thread repeats the same name: Mark Emerson. Anyone know him?

Tom, ask Lee if he remembers Mark Emerson please.

Eric, compare the quality of the soldering on the first chassis you posted in the other thread and on this Lee Gilbert chassis.

And BTW, Hoffman was the maker of the wooden box. I think the 1100 desigation is the size and style number. Can you post a pic of the box please?

Along with great workmanship, Lee's got nice engravmanship (I think I invented a new word - LOL).

Regardless, he makes tonyp look like a butcher (with the engraver)

In his younger years, Tony P. was very good at engraving chassis. I have some of his old ones and he usually included a flower along with his name. :)

Iggy, I wondered when you were going to post the Gilbert chassis here. :clapping:

I noticed that the name on the Lola 160 body that went along with the Gilbert chassis was also "Mark Emerson".

Iggy,

You're killin' me! :swoon:

What else do ya' got in the box? A Gorski controller?

This chassis is the slot car equivalent of a 1/1 barn find!

I think that is about it for the box - just a few little parts, another black case motor, couple axles, various ratio cox gears for the axles, couple guides, old dry tires and some liquids.

Sorry, just an old (I think Parma) controller with the "R" on the side. I understand that that is a real common controller - wires are really bad too so someone put black tape on them.

Iggy, that black case motor might be the one that goes in Ferret Iso chassis. The "R" on the controller handles indicates it's a Russkit item. Older than a Parma, they made the controllers before Parma bought them out. If these handles are in good shape and not cut up, there are collectors who seek such items. What color plastic are yours?

The controller is a translucent red. I will get a couple photos up tomorrow.
