Next a big thanks to the PA posse for all their help in making Washington Slot Car Club what it is.
Also I would like to thank all the behind the scenes people that helped to pull off this series race. There where a few regular faces missing in action but we had a few new faces show up.
As always it was a great day of racing and smiles with a lot of great people. There were a few new records set in the F1 class on flying distances.
I hope that everyone had a great day of racing and plenty to eat and went home with a full belly.
Thanks everyone,
Ron Culp

Thanks to John Krebbs for his expertise in electronics and fine craftsmanship on the updated electronics on the track. The new system was flawless albeit a couple hiccups with our archaic keyboard.
Again, thanks to Ron for making a great track available to the guys here in SW PA. Hope you all had a safe trip home.
Go figure... you guys make the trek to Washington and get an extra hour of sleep. Just another part of our hospitality. LOL.

Had a BLAST yesterday... Thanks to all who helped out...
Pretty good racing though, that Sax guy bought one of my F1s and took sixth place... I think... Should have given him my motor though...
It's always nice to go to that part of town Saw Paul Meiers there, that's the guy who used to do the Slotcar Bulletin...
Race-in was a BLAST.... Food was FANTASTIC..... Can't say much more.
Just wait till next month...

Yo' Dude,Should have gave him my motor though...
Are you talking about the F7 you let the magic smoke out of? That's not a very nice thing to do to our buddy Sax.
When you rebuild this one and zap the magnets, can you do an extra one for me?
Thank you, Renee' , the pictures are outstanding!

Tom and Jeff Lauterbach are rated amongthe top retro racers in the world, so it came as no real surprisethat the duo totally dominated race number three of the Penn-Ohioretro Series on Saturday, Nov. 6 at the Washington Slot Car Club, which happens to be their home track.
With 23-racers on hand producing aseason high 79 total entries… the battleground was a historic ChrisDadds-built U.K. 110’ Black flat track, and the Jimmy Verga-built55’ ‘Bullring’ oval housed within the confines of theCanonsburg Sportsman Club, located near Washington, PA.
STOCK CAR
Following an outing on the North Eastroad course last month things were back to normal for the stock cardivision, as they traded paint on the tight Bullring ‘true’ oval, which measures only 55-feet on the outside lane.
Current point leader Tom Lauterbach wason fire as he jumped to a big lead early in the first heat and neverlooked back, racing to a convincing 17-lap win over son Jeff. LarryMattingly overcame early race traffic problems to eventually reel inBob Saxvik on the bottom lanes to finish third. Greg Kurnal wasfifth, trailed by Dennis Krivacek and Brian McPherson.
The second heat found veteran FrankElavsky cruising to a win over Dan Ebert , who edged the alwayssteady Jeff Little for the second spot. Former wing car stalwart JimVerga finished fourth on the track he constructed, followed by StevePloskunak, Lester Lucas and Aaron Ploskunak, who came back followinggear issues early on in the contest.
The final tally found T. Lauterbacheasily winning over J. Lauterbach, Elavsky, Ebert and Mattingly.Little, Saxvik, Verga, Kurnal and S. Ploskunak were next in line. T.Lauterbach recorded the day’s fastest time with a 2.07 lap.

CAN-AM
The popular Can-Am division, with23-entries, proved to be the biggest class of the day… requiringthree heats to determine the winner.
It was all Dennis Krivacek in the firstheat, as the card carrying member of the ‘Pa Posse’ won easilyafter challenger Bob Saxvik went to the pits with a jammed frontwheel following an off-track excursion. That moved John Krebs tosecond, who eeked out the spot by eight track sections over DanMyers. WASHINGTONNEWS & NOTES
… Hats off to Ron Culp and theWashington Slot Car Club. The ‘PA Posse’ sure knows how to throwa party. The day’s activities went off without a hitch, fromsign-in to the final race. And the food? Sliced prime roast beef andmushrooms, Italian sausage, home made mac and cheese, fresh cutfrench fries, pasta salad and Mexican-style pizza. No one went homehungry.
… As if the on-track action wasn’texciting enough, a fire engine damaged the front entrance gate toSportsman Club responding to a car fire on the property.
… Washington’s 110’ UK Blacktrack has some history. Formerly housed at Mike Leach’s FasTrackHobbies in Newark, OH and the late Dan Artman’s Mineral Ridge, OHbased Raceway Hobbies, the flat track has been the scene of two USRADiv. 2 Nats races along with a pair of ISRA North Americanchampionship events. The old girl is as tough as ever.
…New faces. A big welcome to localWashington racers John Krebs, whose father was a driving force inPittsburgh slot car racing in the 1960’s, as well as the managerof Tom Thumb South … a Western PA slot racing mecca back in theday; Greg Kurnal, and Terry Garove.
… And a welcome back to Bob Saxvik.’Sax’ has put the summer toys away and should be a regular on theP-O trail. Many racers compete on Bob’s beautiful three-lane homebasement track (Rte. 46 Raceway) every Monday night during the wintermonths.
… Canadian racer Rob Garner made thelong 5 ½ trip down from the Niagara Falls area to compete andcracked the top-10 in the F1 class. Rob says to expect to see evenmore Canadian racers in future P-O events.
…MIA at Washington were seriesregulars Rick Bennardo, Brian Cox, Jay Sabala, Andy Buckzo andTiffany Rathburn. Rick was attending the World of Outlawchampionships in Charlotte, NC, while Brian announced he will beforced to withdraw from the P-O Series for awhile, due a back injurysuffered by his fiancée at work. Hurry back folks.
… ‘Captain’ Steve Ploskunak getsan ‘atta boy’ for his strong showing at Washington, including apodium finish in the Can-Am main. Steve’s son Aaron, the P-O Seriesyoungest racer, also keeps getting better and better, which reallyputs a smile on dads face.
… ‘Tech Nazi’ Dan Myers receivedan early Christmas present as Jeff Little and Dennis Krivacek handledthe tech duties all day so the Cable Guy could get in some extrapractice time on the tricky UK Black. Did it help? “Not a bit,”laughed Dan.
…Just how tough is it to defeat theLauterbach’s (Tom and Jeff) on the P-O flat tracks? We thoughtFrank Elavsky had the best line of the day: “I consider placingthird to them to be a win”.
… Elavsky was in deep mourning atWashington as his prized ‘Falcoon’ expired during the F1 main.“She lived for 12-races”, said Frank. A memorial service isplanned in Akron this week.
… Paul Meiers, long time racer, series director, USRA president and former publisher of SLOT CARBULLETIN, stopped in to say ‘hello’ to the troops. The now svelteMeiers, no thanks to open heart surgery a few years back, still lovesto talk slots, but shows no inclination that he wants to pick up acontroller again, despite some good natured prodding from the racers.
… Aaron Ploskunak now holds therecord for ‘heaviest’ P-O car ever raced, as his stock car tippedthe scales at 168 plus grams.
… The Falcon 7 was the motor ofchoice at Washington, as it was in all 12 podium finishing cars.
… It was great to see all five P-Ohosting raceway owners (Ron Culp, Leroy Moyer, Lester Lucas, FrankElavsky and Brian McPherson) in attendance and RACING. Don’t seethat very often in other slot car series.
Participating racer/ raceway numbersfrom Washington: Washington (12), BCR (4), North East (3), Rte. 93(1), REM (1), Niagara Scale Speedway (1), Misc. (1).
… Next up is Rte. 93 Raceway in Akronon Sat. Dec. 4. A P-O mid-season survey will be distributedsoliciting racer input for the 2011 season. Put on your thinkingcaps, as to possible changes and what you would like to see happen inthe series next season. However, please keep in mind that this willbe an informational survey… NOT a vote.
Some day this will be fun again. Right???

Way to go Ron Culp! A 5TH in Flexi GT and a 7TH in Can-Am way to step up your program. This has to be one of your best days yet in your Penn-Ohio racing.
John
I'll second that comment and he made all that food too!
That was the best spread I ever saw at a slot car event!
Thanks to you and the PA- posse for all your work, it paid off with a great day of racing.
I hope to bring more converts in the future, see everyone soon!
