Mr & Mrs Frank,
Thanks for the Good Time! The food was great and the racing as good as it gets. And we didn't get caught in the snow on the way home either. .
It was nice to see your old time King is still in fine shape and I can't wait to come back in Feb. I'll try to see if we can increase the Canadian content next time .
Thanks to the rest of organizers as well. And to everyone have a Merry Xmas and Happy new Year!
Hope to see everyone in Washington in January.

HAIL TO THE (Rte. 93)KING…
After an early season diet of flat-track action the Penn-Ohio (P-O) Retro Series made its first appearance on a King track in 2010 at the half-way point of the season, visiting the original American Raceways-built 155 footer at Frank and Debbie Elavsky's venerable Rte. 93 Raceway in Akron, Ohio for round four on Sat. Dec. 4.
Although a large number of P-O series regulars were MIA, the event still attracted 25 racers (many new faces) during the busy holiday season, generating a season high 87 entries across the day's four class racing program.
STOCK CAR
Fifteen Stock Car division entries sign-in to rub fenders on Rte. 93's unique true oval, which utilizes a banked turn from a scrapped road course, mated to a 'flat' turn on the opposite end.
The first stock car main could only be described as 'ugly', but that didn't stop Tom and Jeff Lauterbach from putting on a show, as the pair went into the final segment separated by only one lap. The tale of the tape found Jeff finishing on the red lane, while Tom was in the middle of the track on blue. That allowed Tom to slam the door shut, cruising to a 12-lap margin of victory. Veteran Bob Saxvik was within striking distance, seven laps back to finish third. Local Rte. 93 racer 'Farmer' Dan Forbush was fourth, followed by Jeff Little, Steve Ploskunak and Leroy Moyer.
The second main was a much cleaner race by comparison, as Frank Elavsky dominated the field, cruising to a 20-lap win and equaling his track record total of 382-laps over Denny Krivacek, who has become a force to reckoned with on the ovals. Larry Mattingly was third, in front of Lester Lucas, Rick Bennardo, Aaron Ploskunak, Mark Kitto, and Brian McPherson.
The final result found Elavsky edgingTom Lauterbach by two-laps for the top honors, while Jeff Lauterbach rounded out the podium. Krivacek ended-up fourth over Saxvik, Forbush, Little, Mattingly, Lucas and Bennardo. Jeff Little set fast time and established a new track record with a lap of 2.18 seconds.
Dan Forbush captured Stock Car concours honors over Larry Mattingly and Rick Bennardo.
F. Elavsky… self-built chassis (124.2 grams), Falcon motor, O/S 68 Charger body, Parma/GT-1 gears (7-29), FE front/JK rear tires, DiFalco controller.
T. Lauterbach … T/L R-Geo chassis (143.1 grams), Falcon motor, O/S 68 Charger body, Parma/GT-1gears (8-28), T/L front/Alpha rear tires, Third Eye controller.
J. Lauterbach … T/L R-Geo chassis (148.3 grams), Falcon motor, O/S 68 Charger body, Parma/GT-1gears (8-28), T/L front/Alpha rears, Third Eye Controller.
FLEXI-GT
The first Flexi-GT main found TomLauterbach and Dan Myers locked in a virtual dead heat for the first six-segments of the contest. Myers trailed Lauterbach by a single lap entering the seventh segment, but finishing on purple and black lanes was the 'Cable Guy's' undoing, allowing Lauterbach to win by six-laps. Bob Saxvik was in the hunt, finishing four-laps back in third. 'Cheeseman' Dave Bille took fourth, out racing Rob Garner, Tony Rickard, Dave Seagraves, and Aaron Ploskunak.
In the second main the story was all Frank Elavsky, who led from flag to flag to win by seven-laps over Rick Bennardo, who kept things close in the early going. Two-laps further back were Brian McPherson and Larry Mattingly, who finished in a near tie, separated by only inches. Fifth through eighth were:Ron Culp, who was in the hunt until gear issues slowed him in the sixth segment, Andy Buczko, Lester Lucas, and Dan Forbush.
Jeff Lauterbach took no prisoners in the third main, winning every segment to rip off a 16-lap win over 'Captain' Steve Ploskunak and Denny Krivacek. Mark Kitto, Jim Applequist, Leroy Moyer, Matt Nulph and Jeff Little trailed.
Jeff Lauterbach's 178 laps was good enough to nail down the overall win and establish an automatic track record. Elavsky was two laps back in second, and one lap in front of T. Lauterbach. Bennardo edged Myers by four track sections for fourth. McPherson, Mattingly, Saxvik, S. Ploskunak, and Culp rounded out the top-10. Tom Lauterbach had fast time and established a new track record with a lap of 4.93 to earn the two bonus points.
Denny Krivacek was awarded concours honors over Rob Garner and Larry Mattingly.
J. Lauterbach … T/L JK 11chassis (102 grams), Falcon motor, Red Fox Ferrari P4 body, JK/GT-1gears (12-37), JK front /Alpha rear tires, Third Eye controller.
F. Elavsky … FE JK 11 chassis(100.3 grams), Falcon motor, O/S Chevron body, Parma gears (10-35), JK front and rear tires, DiFalco controller.
T. Lauterbach … T/L JK 11chassis (103 grams), Falcon motor, red Fox Ferrari P4 body, JK/GT-1gears (12-37), JK front/Alpha rear tires, Third Eye controller.
CAN-AM
Jeff Lauterbach was once again the class of the field in the first main of the Can-Am class, pulling out to a five-lap victory over Frank Elavsky, who kept things close in the nine-man round robin contest. Dave Bille was a distant third, just edging out Jim Applequist. Dave Seagraves, Aaron Ploskunak, RobGarner, and Matt Nulph were next in line. Jeff Little retired early with handling problems.
The second Can-Am main raised a few eyebrows as P-O newcomer Dan Forbush celebrated his 50thbirthday in grand style, by leading from the get go to defeat veteran scale racer Al Rutti, who was making a rare retro start. Brian McPherson turned in a solid ride for third place to out distance RonCulp, Denny Krivacek, Larry Mattingly, Tony Rickard and Andy Buczko.
Tom Lauterbach put the pedal to metal in the third main, and drove away from Bob Saxvik and StevePloskunak, who nipped Dan Myers by a lap. Mark Kitto and Rick Bennardo ended in a virtual dead heat for the fifth spot, ahead of Lester Lucas and Leroy Moyer, an early retiree.
The final tally found T. Lauterbach in the top spot, setting a new track record lap total in the process with 265-laps. J. Lauterbach was second, joined by Forbush on the victory podium. Elavsky was fourth, ahead of Savik, Rutti, S.Ploskunak, Myers, McPherson and Culp. T. Lauterbach recorded fast time of 5.102, which was also a new single lap track record.
Steve Ploskunak took first in concours. Dan Forbush was second, while Leroy Moyer was third.
T. Lauterbach … T/L R-Geochassis (105 grams), O/S Ferrari 414 body, Pro Slot motor, Parma/GT-1gears (7-28), TL front/Alpha rear tires, Third Eye controller.
J. Lauterbach … T/L R-Geochassis (108.5 grams), O/S Ferrari 414 body, Pro Slot motor,Parma/GT-1 gears (7-28), TL front/Alpha rear tires, Third Eyecontroller.

PENN-OHIO FORMULA ONE
Another stout 23-car field was on hand for the Penn-Ohio Formula One night cap, which turned out to be closest racing of the day.
Tom Lauterbach picked up another checkered flag in the first of two round robin mains, but it wasn't without a tussle as he edged Al Rutti by a mere lap to claim the top honors. Canadian Rob Garner put forth another superb effort to finish third in front of Frank Elavsky and Denny Krivacek. Dave Bille was sixth in front of Steve Ploskunak and Matt Nulph. Lester Lucas, Jeff Little and Dan Myers were early drop outs.
After a rough opening segment Jeff Lauterbach got things back together to nail down the win in the second main over Mark Kitto and Rick Bennardo. Ron Culp registered a good fourth place finish ahead of Brian McPherson and Larry Mattingly. Leroy Moyer, Tony Richard, Bob Saxvik, who parked early after a bad crash, Aaron Ploskunak, Andy Buczko, and Dan Forbush ,also an early exit, finished seventh through twelfth.
T. Lauterbach and Rutti finished 1-2 in the overall run down, trailed by J. Lauterbach. Only two laps separated the top three finishers. Kitto was fourth, ahead of Garner, Bennardo, Elavsky, Krivacek, Bille and Culp. Brian McPherson set fast time with a lap of 5.268.
Dan Myers was awarded the F1 concours award, with Dan Forbush second, and Denny Krivacek third.

RTE. 93 NOTES…
… LUNCH REPORT: Rte. 93 received an A+ from the racers. Rigatoni and meatballs, sloppy joe, BBQ beef, pasta salad, garden salad, fresh fruit, and a plethora of desserts were on the menu. Hats off to Frank and Debbie Elavsky for their hospitality. The BBQ beef was a crowd favorite.
… FASTEST THUMB IN THE WEST: Longtime racer Al Rutti made an infrequent retro start using some cars provided by long time team mate Dave 'Shadow' Smierka. Al amazed some of the younger racers in the house, as he still uses his thumb on the controller trigger… 1960's style. Gone, however, is the traditional head band.
… WELCOME: First time Penn-Ohio Series racers included Al Rutti, MMW Raceway owner Mark Kitto, DanForbush, Dave Bille, Dave Seagraves, and Canadian Terry Rickard.
… INJURED RESERVE: Tom Calvert, who dominated last season's Rte. 93 P-O events paid a visit. Tom will be out of action for awhile as a case of carpal tunnel has sidelined him.
… GHOST OF WHITE LANE PAST: Rte. 93's infamous white lane reached out and bit several competitors in the F1 class, walling them in the bank turn. Others went through the turn full punched.. Owner Frank Elavsky reworked the lane entering the turn after last season, and the track was in great condition.
… ROTATION CHANGE: For the next four races the P-O class rotation schedule will be: Stock Car, Can-Am, F1,and Flexi-GT.
… THE NUMBERS: Participating racer/raceway numbers from Rte. 93: Washington (10), BCR (5), Rte. 93(4), Niagara Scale Speedway (2), REM (1), North East (1), MMW (1),Misc. (1).
… NEXT UP: Washington Slot Car Club…Saturday, Jan 22 .
… HAPPY HOLIDAYS: Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year
Some day this will be fun again. Right???

Thus far 40 different racers have participated in the series, and it's only a matter of time before the series will be averaging over 30-racers per event.
It is great to see the Canadian contingent growing, led by Rob Garner. These guys travel over five hours (one way) to race retro! Even further than me...
It is also emlightening to see the growth in the P-O Formula One and stock car classes this year...
But the biggest factor is the FUN everyone is having, and the smiles on everyones face...
Have to comment on the recent show at Rte. 93.
Super job on organization to the P-O BoD and track staff for keeping the show moving... 25-racers, 89 entries over four classes, and 10 individual races. Everyone was out the door by 7:15 PM. OUTSTANDING!!! Successful races don't just happen.
Lunch was great... Hats off to Debbie.
Thanks to Renee for taking the photos, and to Marcie Barlow, who helps getting out 'THE RIDER' newsletters and flyers each month...
Can things get any better? Yep, keep your eyes peeled for an announcement after the first of the year...
Happy Holidays to everyone...
