The F1 cars were up next at Gaithersburg for the second event of the day. This would be the first time the F1 cars would be raced in the MASON-DIXON Retro series. Seven drivers signed in for the event. After warmups, qualifying was up next.

After lane selecctions and a warmup, the F1's were ready to go. Dale Granger and Robert Rodgers were out front early with Randy Kohr and Bill Gerhart trailing. By heat 4, Robert Rodgers had taken over the lead and was looking to pull an upset. Robert's bid for a win fell short as he had a rough red lane. At the start of heat 8, Randy Kohr held a 6 foot lead on Dale Granger. Randy held on for the win followed by Dale Granger and a great run by Robert Rodgers in third. Bill Gerhart was fourth with Gary Culy in fifth. Ron Pearson and Bob Young rounded out the field. Randy's Skunkworks chassis was geared 8-30, equipped with Thunder rubber on the rears. Congrats to Randy, Dale and Robert on their podium finish.

The 56 is the Indy wedge from 1968. True Scale makes it.
This 49 is the model (introduced in 1967) with the Monaco tail extension.
