Guys, First time forum poster so I hope I'm doing this right.

Its been a busy day putting various 1/24 and 1/24 Ford GTs on my eBay watch lists (along with STABO Ferrari P4s- I REALLY want to do a P3!) and STABO Chaparral 2D. I don't know why I'm watching the STABOs they are close but NOT really that accurate.

My topic is EVERY Ford GT coupe ever made has a different windshield and windshield frame profile! The IMCs are the most inaccurate-too flat and the upper edge does not extend forward. The Cox GT40 looks pretty accurate at least it extends forward. The side window are also a problem on all. The Aurora GT 40 "Battle Aces" really hosed the windhield frame, where did the windshield post get that bend in it? Also the Aurora tail tapers too sharply and the brake ducts are too flat.

Don't know about the Fujimi (and Revell) Mark II, I had one but let it go (have to get another) love the tires and wheels. So it appears ALL the 1/24-1/25 GT40s have profile and dimension problems. Do I need to chop out the good center sections and apply different nose and tails for each version?

I want to do a Ken Miles Daytona #72 or 73 in Guardsman blue, the Ken Miles 66 Sebring MK II roadster, the 65 1st version Mk II #1 or #2.

Question: What scale is the LeMans Miniatures '65 Mk II #1 and 2? It looks to be 1/24, if so I'll order one.

Last but not least is the FORD GT 40 Spyder- the Monogram looks a little flat and too wide, the Revell slot car looks pretty close and the Lancer X1 (Big ED) looks spot on.

Over the years I had almost all of these but sold of most, I did reaquire the Aurora and the IMC original #11 I just won the IMC Gulf GT40 today on eBay but that nagging inaccurate center section will have to be fixed. Any hints anong with photo attachments would help.

I just got laid off and don't look to go back to full time work. I have various projects in mind, the entire (almost all) Mecom team and Chaparrals, along with Lola GT MK VI (Ford and Chevy) and Lotus 30s and 40s.

I am 62 going on 63 so I think I've got about 20 years of modeling left. I donated most of my extensive late 1950's all 1960 and 1970 book and magazine library to the San Diego Automotive Museum last year and the rest will follow in 2015.

Don't feel like putting them on eBay, too much good and rare stuff and I don't want to photo each item If you're looking for something in particular let me know.

Although I do not model. I am 63 and GT40 nut. John GT/103 was the 1965 Daytona winner. Basically and I am including Fujimi in this no firm has got the proportion and door shut 100% accurate. The door shuts and windows from the prototypes onwards would be better shown from a photo of the real car. Among the real cars features are a very narrow front side support and the side window having a raised rear bottom. The Cox model has for some reason got a curved front on the side window; wrong! Its front supports are too thick. I think the second series Atlas would make a better base for the Daytona winner. (Maybe look at  L& S) And even theses pillars are still too wide. You would have to substancially alter the Cox version since it was based more on the Nuringburg/ Le Mans cars which have two headlights. The Daytona cars had one. Le Mans miniatures is a great model but has the same problem with the pillars. Good Luck.

Regards Allan

I cannot seem to edit my last post so as a follow up and to answer you questions. Le Mans miniatures did make the two big block GT106 and GT/107 the 427 Le Mans cars as RTR in 1/32nd scale. But they painted the bonnets wrong in matt Black instead of satin Dark Blue. I do have some resin trans kits X-1 and I think the X-1. MKII roadster or roadster made by a firm called Exotic models. The X-1 was not a true roadster as it was part of Roy Lunns X project to put a big block into a Ford GT. It started as chassis GT110 and got fitted with a roadster tail; but the front clip complete with lights from the 1965 Le Mans 427 GT/106. For the 1966 season it was rebodied as the one and only MKII Spyder and won Sebring by default when Dan Gurneys MKII broke down before the finishing line. the earlier spyders were small blocks and only three of then raced the1965 season. I know MMK made a RTR of the roaster Le Mans GT/109 in 1/32nd. I would suggest you look at diecasts Exoto and GMP and make your mind up as to how much work you want to throw at these projects? I must reiterate that there is no substitutes for photos of the real cars. In truth each version would have to have a centre section down and modified like you originally stated. It depends on how accurate you want them?

So once again John Good luck and Have a great Xmas and a happy New Year.

Just as a relevant piece of information to you John all Ford GT's had their screens fitted on by bonding them from the outside. Therefore the black surround is where the screen is bonded to the body I think it incorporates a rubber seal.

Regards Allan.

John I hope I was not too negative on the reply for information. You do not mention where you live but for your 1/24th Ford GT 1965 Daytona winner you should try and find the L& S static (there was a slot) that was reissued under the label ARII. This would be a good basis for you to work on. Like I said I only know of the 1/32nd Slotcars of Le Mans miniatures for the long nose big block 1965 Le Mans cars but they did do 1/24th but I do not know if they did a static of this car in the bigger scale. Like I stated the only models I have seen for the 1966 GT40 MKII spyder Sebring winner is the Exoto model Diecast.

Good Luck Allan

Hey John,

I'd agree the Monogram Spyder is a bit off looking - the (sadly rare) Tamiya is worth a look though as slightly better in terms of scale and width.

There's a massive whack of Ford GT pictures here:

And thanks Allan for chipping in - your info regarding this stuff is always appreciated.

Hi Simon and John

The Tamiya is wrong with the windscreen on a small block Spyder.

I got the resin kits name wrong they are out of production but might show up on Ebay. The name is MIni Exoto (Exotic?)

I still think that the L&S / ARII Ford GT is the best starting point for the 1965 Daytona winner in 1/24th. With 1/24th Fujimi kits being a bases for the rest. Even the Fujimi kits need remodeling of the bottom rear of the side windows.

Once again good Luck.

Regards Allan
