OK, it's in the books! Fifteen racers turned out for the return of retro racing in Texas. I'll keep this first post short and to the point, in an effort to be totally unencumbered come kickoff time, but I'd like to add a great big THANKS to everyone who came out and made the day a success and as usual just as big a THANKS to Gwen Myers for directing the race! Without further adieu, here's the results:
1. "Shadow" Dave Smerka 287 laps
2. John Myers 280
3. Richard Hofer 271
4. Kraig Beck 270
5. Ken Stevens 268
6. Kyle Stokes 268
7. Jay Howard 267
8. Eddy "Mac" McDonald 257
9. Jerry Boswell 250
10. "Uncle Fred" Correnti 249
11. John Gonzales 244
12. Mike Barnett 242
13. Lonny Getso 224
14. Patrick Norwood 213
15. Vern "Sarge" Bell 186
Fastest lap: Jay Howard 4.634
THANKS again to everyone! I'll post my personal race thoughts later, along with some pre-race pics. Let's hear how YOUR days went, too!

John Myers, Mike Barnett & Jay Howard were all very fast, but ran into troubles. Shadow Dave stayed very clean and fast for the win.

It was good to meet both of you Saturday and see the new track. I'm looking forward to building a couple of retro cars and coming out and racing with everyone in the near future.
Oh, and thanks Tex for letting a rookie put a few laps on your car. Coming from drag racing I'm not used to letting off for a corner!

Uh, yeah, Chuck..... thanks for pointing that out... totally slipped my mind when I made the offer.

Sounds like a a typical slot race....... but it can all be different next time...or more of the same.

Tex does tech.
Car lineup. A few non legal bodies. We will get that corrected. Didn't want to turn away racers the first time. Especially when they drove from San Antonio.
Dirver lineup
Podium - John, Shadow & RL. You can tell from the smile on Dave's face that he showed us how the cow ate the cabbage this time. RL also drove a great race. Not sure if he ever came off.
Winning cars
Botttom view. John's chassis was very cool. All handcut by him. Clean and simple. Wish I had taken a picture with body off.

Bryan,
Didn't race your car, bud. It was better than mine but my builder's ego got the best of me, so I drove my own contraption. Sorry. But driving your car DID give me an excellent benchmark to work towards. THANKS! And even I was able to drive your car as fast as the fastest cars out there, including the winning car. Maybe you'll come out to Texas someday and show us how it's done. (Dood, that car needs a new body... I'll paint ya one if you'll tell me the mfg. of the body)

Your right. John Myers' car looks super-cool.
Tex,
And you look pretty handsome with that "cagoland ceway" T-Shirt.

First is "Uncle Fred" Correnti and Ken Stevens sizing each other up.
Next is co-owner of the 130' Ogilvie, Mike Barnett, performing rites and rituals mere mortals can only guess at. Well, either that or playing "air piano" on his imaginary Steinway. The treatments are working wonders, Mike!
Here's Fred again, smiling because he'd just smeared Vaseline on the inside of the lenses of the geezer-goggles in the foreground. Jerry Boswell(foreground) will no doubt look askance at such shenanigans when he puts them on!

John Myers lookin' over Mike Barnett's shoulder, checking out his voodoo/air piano. I don't think John cares much for air piano but he HAS run through the jungle and just might know how to cast a spell on Mike's car.
The Few. The Proud. The.... Tallest to Shortest?! Lonny, John G. and Kraig Beck.
