It runs well, but warm, without shunts. Will shunts make it run cooler. :?:

Only if the majority of heat is caused by the brushes. Too small an airgap and any misalignment of the components won't be helped. :)

Thanks, Dokk.
Bill, you know I have the gap at .015 and everything is aligned.
So I will add the shunts.

I'd just solder one of those big ole finned aluminum heat sinks to the top of the motor and try convince everyone that that's the way the exhaust pipes looked on that car.

What wind are you running? I have a Koford hand heater that draws way more amps than volts. In fact, it'll get so hot you can fry an egg on it. :)

The Mura/Cukras is a 26 single. 8)
It sings pretty loud and strong. I'll try some shunts and see if I can improve the temp.

My question is . . .

Is it an early-production motor, using 16D-sized brushes?

Or, have you opted for better performance, and found some 36D-sized brush hoods to use?

Just asking . . . ;)

Unlike claimed by others, the FT36D brushes were never used on production Mura-Cukras motors. However it is not a bad idea to fit some so as to increase heat transfer to the shunt wires and lead wires.

Shunt experiment:
Indeed, the motor runs better with shunts.
Thanks to Greg Wells for the shunt wire and insulation. 8)

Yes, Electric Dreams has them in stock.
As soon as I receive the 1/4 X 1/8 ball bearings I can start the rear axle tubing, using dc-65x method. The 9/32 OD tubing sandwich will just butt up against the bracket, not go through it. The chassis design has redundancy and I think it will be every bit as strong as the original, maybe even more.

I received the body today, it has no taper. Why was the original chassis tapered? A speed secret? Or maybe the original body was tapered? :?:

I think it was because of the width of the Russkit bracket. Way back when . . . you could run a rail from the rear axle tube and butt it against the front of the motor and get about a 1/16 taper on the rails. The butyrate body would stretch over the back of the chassis while still having the front fit comfortably without distorting the nose.

Hi Pablo,

Looking good, my friend 8) . Looking at PdL's pictues I ASSumed the chassis was not tapered. I'm probably wrong . . . only PdL knows for sure ;) . As for how the body fits on such a wide chassis, well it's a stretch for sure. Look at the last picture in PdL's restoration article. The bottom of the body actually rides above the frame rails a little in the back. I added a piece of black plastic on mine to cover them up. You can see it in my pictures.

Have fun!

I thought it was tapered because of the computer-aided design.
Now that I look at the original again it looks straight.
So maybe the dc-65x and the Pablo/Dieter Jens chassis are korrect in their straightness.

Is there a Dokktor in the house? Or a Steube? :?:

My eyes are better after the surgery, I just noticed the rear body mount is ABOVE the drop arm hinge. This is good news, because it will eliminate hinge slop.

Rick, I'm learning they used to LOVE to s t r e t c h the bodies over the chassis. I'll build this one to do the same wink.gif

Here is the powerplant for your viewing pleasure only. It's NOT for sale, Edo.

Edo,
I'll bet you have more slot car motors than my wife has handbags AND shoes.
:roflmao:
Now go grind some tires to 20.64 mm and put a 7t or 8t pinion on one of (your own) motors.

Hey Edo,

Did you do a post somewhere that showed lots of vintage rewound motor pictures? If so, could I have a link to it please? :)

Thanks!
