I'm just announcing a new "home" raceway coming to South Orange County. It will join Pebblestone as the only home track raceways for 1/32 and 1/24 cars in the "OC"!! To those looking to race locally...

We'll be racing once a month when it does NOT conflict with the program at BPR raceway or Pebblestone!! Enjoy - I'll post pics of the track once it's installed.

Thanks,

Tim

The tracks nearly done--it's getting loaded and heading to the OC tomorrow morning!! Here's what it looks like now---final pics tomorrow after installation. We'll pic some race dates on Sundays--- to try and NOT conflict with the BPR guys---Pebblestone or the OTHG guys that would like to come down!! Probably the 2nd of 4th weekend of the month. Schedule TBD!!!

Well here's the finished Bob Scott installation!! The "Circuit Hillside Raceway" It's VERY fun with a nice elevation change from the start/finish line at the top left back straight down to the bottom driver's area---then 13" UP to through the "S" section into the donut and back to the start finish line for 70' of racing action!! Got to get some scenery done around the track now---I"m open to any suggestions? I've got 3 distinct areas that can be used--the S area--the drivers stand area and the inner portion of the donut. The side walls I'm putting banners on now. Let me know what you think?
Thanks

As far as future race dates--I'm thinking the 3rd Sunday of the month? Perhaps in April we'll see if that works for the BPR gang!!? I've gotta check and see what D3 class's are running then.
THanks

The basic track dimensions--- 4" lane spacing-- 9' wide at the driver's panel--22' long up to the donut--7' wide at the donut!! It's a VERY fun track, coated with Varathane clear and has excellent bite with foams OR rubber tires. We'll be racing on when we can with everything from 1/32 cars up to 1/24 D-3 cars. Come play with us sometime.

Got it covered with a tarp--so far --so good!!! The tarp is held down with clamps to the legs--gonna look for some EXTRA LONG bungees tomorrow--so I can loop over the track and hold it down in the high winds!! Then I think it will be bulletproof.

It's true, what a crazy thing to do, put an indoor slot car track outside! But it works! I've been doing it for years. I think Tim has it covered pretty well.

The thing is that a track outside obvoisuly needs a heavy water prrof tarp securely fastened to the underside of the track. It should be under some cover where it wont take direct hit from the rain and the 4 or so that I've done for people have had some overhead cover.

The track does have 4 coats of Varathane waterproof sealer so that helps.

Saturday before racing at Silverlake Speedway (Farrout 1/32) I went up to Eddie Shorer's Mini Boola King that I built. It had sustained some water damage and when I got there I was a bit worried because it was at a joint. What happens is that the MDF swells and causes bumps. It does not cause undo harm to knock the bumps down with a wood chisel and finish sanding, which I did and applied 3 coats of Varathane. The track had a bump on 3 lanes and after the fix was nearly smooth as new. The area will have to be watched however, there's no telling how long water had been hitting the area. It was in a corner where he plans to provide more protection.

You know what, it's worth all the worries and hassle ;)

Well the "Hillside" survived 60 mph winds and rain last night with no problems thanks to Bob's suggestion to spring clamp the tarp down to the legs--and Dennis Samson's suggestion of putting large plastic balls under the tarp to hold a "Crown" in it for the rain to drain off. Checked on it this morning--and all is fine and dry under the tarp!!! COOL!!! The other thing I'm really considering---is what they call Drop curtains--heavy vinyl fabric that rolls down on all sides of the patio to create a nice enclosure--it's not completely weatherproof---but will do a very nice job of keeping 98% of the rain and weather off of the patio where the track is!!! Not cheap---but could be worth it in the long run!!

I'm happy the "Hillside" survived last night's downpours!

My track is fine too, despite large puddles of water lying on top of the tarp when I got home from an outing last night, and again this morning. My roofing over the patio is not as waterproof as I would like!

I have a length of rope threaded through the holes in the edge of the trap and I pull on that to gather the edges of the tarp under the track, it seems to work fine.

Good to hear that both tracks survived as the winds and rain here was bad!

I'll try to schedule more races---but for now I think May 22nd-- a Saturday would be the best day to hold a "BPR" regulars and any of the "OC" Crew as well to come down to the Hillside and race. We'll plan on the Slot it cars--and the BURT Trucks-- as well as perhaps some D-3 cars--F-1 or maybe the 1/32 class too. I'll leave it up to you guys to discuss-- I'll have built a 1/32 or two by then. I'm trying to avoid any of the D-3 racing dates at BPR--in April it looks like Easter takes the 3rd Sunday---and that's the weekend I think I'd like to run somewhat regularly---Dennis is running on the 1st Saturdays of the month at "Pebblestone". I'll also have weeday evening races as the weather gets nicer for those that would like to do that. We can do Wed or Thursday nights in the future.

FYI
Thanks

Any day will work!! Just bring up your cars. I"ll have to start scratchbuilding for the six bodies I picked up of Ebay!! I'm thinking that TSR or Falcon 7's-- Inline with D-3 style chassis will make for a fun interesting class. But I'll have to build one first and see what I can come up with.
Thanks Neil--- cya on Wed?

Hello Guys,

Okay-- the first official race date for the new "Hillside" Raceway in OC is going to be the first weekend in June. Saturday--June 4th-- I'll plan on having the track available for testing and tuning starting at 10:30 am-- we'll have a lunch at 12:00 noon per the "Pebblestone" tradition--and then racing starting after lunch. We'll run the same class's as we do at Pebblestone-- and if you would like--we CAN add some D-3 class's as the cars will work on this track. We could add Can Am and Nascars--that would be very fun. But we'll go with the flow of what people can bring. For the OTHG guys-- definitely we run the Slot-it cars--both in inline and anglewind setups in different class's--and we'll have some IROC style races as well so you wont' need cars--just driving ability! So we're on the schedule--NO D-3 BPR races that weekend. Please Email me with your attendance info as I"m in a gated community!! tneja92630@yahoo.com
Thanks
Let's RACE!!

Another place to note that the next race on the Hillside will be Sat 9/3!! So set your calendars and come race with us--the "Pebblestone" crew will be there and any others that would like to join in. We'll be racing in-line and anglewinder plastic 1/32 cars-- some
"IROC" style races--and if time permits--1/32 D-3 and possible 1/24 D-3 Can Am or F-1.
Come on down to South "OC"-- and race!!

New ceiling for rainproofing--fans and lights are now installed over the track!!! IF we'd like to hold night racing--we can now. And the track is completely waterproofed now!!! We'll be racing again first week of November!! Come on out and race with us!!!

Thanks--- we've been having fun racing on "The Hillside Raceway" for the last several months. Dennis Samson has Pebblestone--and this one have become a small circuit. We have two more tracks adding to the mix soon--Dominic out in Murrietta and John Olstrowski in Westminister!! Also, Mill Conroy is working on another track in Downey and Phil Nyland is planning on building a track this year in Mission Viejo!! We're going to have 5 different tracks within 50 miles of each other to play on!! Who-hooo-- 1/32 racing is ALIVE in Southern California again!! Lot's of fun--racing this weekend--March 3rd on the Hillside--come on out and check it out!! You don't need any cars--we've got plenty of loaners--come see what slot racing is about!!
Here's a pic of one of our racing days a few months ago.

VERY FUN day on the "Hillside Raceway" with the usual cast of characters---Dennis Samson, Phil Nyland, Barney Poyner, John Olstrowski, Dominic Mora, Neil Pedinoff, Jim Wolfe and myself-- we only ran one actual race--and I have to send my Trackmate interface card back to get it checked out as it has an intermittent problem during racing. It will suddenly stop recognizing the track interface card?? It doesn't seem to be in the software--so must be a hardware problem I'm guessing. I'll have it checked out before we race again, But a great day of testing and tuning with lot's of bench racing!! An excellent lunch put together by Julie-- a Taco and Tostada bar with all the trimmings-- fruit and brownies for dessert!! Thanks sweetie!! Now--down to Dominics track March 31st!! It will be his first race day!! Go Dom!!!
