Modelville Hobbies in Ashland Ma. just installed a new surface and magnetic braid on thier American Black Royal. The installation of the new surface and braid was completed by master track builders Gerding and Silky. This should be a great 1/24 and 1/32 race track.

Well the new Black is finished and Gary Gerding & Silky did a great job bringing this little gem up to first class condition. We added magnetic braid so this will allow a great deal of classes and types of cars.

Sweet, that means that you guys can race 1:32 magnet cars also! ;) This way you guys can get the home racer to come out to race on a big track and to have a chance to open it up!

I'm racing the best here at BP but Father time is much better then all of us united.
Not a snob in this hobby, after all it will be gone, if we keep on going like we do, and I have nothing to prove so I keep on posting because I have nothing to gain.
It's our duty to remember the past so we can have a future.

Can anyone tell me how this worked out since it has been awhile since the installation? Did it have an affect on flexi racing performance? Did the plastic chasis cars come out and race? Did the braids retain the magnetic qualities or do they have to be replaced?

I used magnetic braid on my tri-oval when I had my raceway, and as far as I know whoever has the track now, it's still on it. It did 5 years at my raceway, and 4 or 5 years at another raceway with no problem. The braid is steel/copper, wear's better than pure copper, and doesn't lose its magnetic quality.

I also used it on a couple of the smaller tracks at the Peachtree City raceway.

Michael, if you want to find some info on this particular black track & its use, you can PM "Modelville Guy". That's Richard Payne, the raceway owner.

FYI:  The braid is not magnetically polarized.  IF a car has magnets under it (Traction magnet), the car will be magnetically heavier due to the attraction to the braid (artificial gravity).  I used it on a 1/24 dragstrip 15 years ago to help the launch and braking area in order to reduce the glue mess and bother - I got tired of scraping the dead flies out of the shutdown area.
