SERRA 28 at Cordle Model Speedway was another great day of close and tight Retro racing. Turn-out was a little light, as two of our AL SERRA racers were working the NASCAR race at Talladega. Bobby Robinson and Dallas Jackson, we missed having you guys race with us!
We had several racers running their first SERRA Series races: Russell Dobbs of Dallas, GA, John Forrester of Douglasville, GA, Danny Richards of Marietta, and an old racing buddy of mine from the late '80s at Ga Hobby Center, Roy Hogan of Marietta. Welcome, guys!
F1
1) James Merriman - 257 laps, best lap of 5.320 secs in green
2) Jay Guard - 249, 5.489 in orange
3) Ralph Thorne - 248, 5.391 in yellow
4) Tommy Flythe - 239, 5.598 in blue
5) Joe McIntosh - 233, 5.601 in blue
6) Danny Richards - 183, 5.868 in black
The Stock Car class was sort of a foregone conclusion, as James was running the same car and motor he'd used to win Stock Car at the R4/4 in Columbus, OH. As in Columbus, Jay chased him hard and again earned second place for his efforts.
Stock Car
1) James Merriman - 232 laps, best lap of 5.929 secs in green
2) Jay Guard - 230, 5.770 in blue
3) Tommy Flythe - 215, 6.039 in orange
4) Eddie Cordle - 214, 6.089 in purple
5) Russell Dobbs - 182, 6.488 in blue
6) John Forrester - 180, 6.531 in black
Can-Am was pretty tight, with the podium winners all separated by a single lap. New SERRA entrant Danny Richards acquitted himself very well in his first SERRA Can-Am race, finishing just two laps out of third. Nice run!
This race featured long stretches of green flag racing without a lot of track calls. Lots of fun to watch. An inspection of the fastest laps for the racers testifies to just how evenly-matched the cars were.
Can-Am
1) Ralph Thorne - 256 laps, best lap of 5.207 in orange
2) James Merriman - 255, 5.219 in orange
3) Jay Guard - 254, 5.382 in green
4) Danny Richards - 252, 5.328 in black
5) Roy Hogan - 237, 5.379 in yellow
6) Steve McBride - 227, 5.269 in yellow
7) Joe McIntosh - 226, 5.379 in blue
8) Russell Dobbs - 201, 5.488 in blue
I'll get the pictures up later today.

Never forget that first place goes to the racer with the MOST laps, not the racer with the FASTEST lap

The car James ran in F1 was not an R-Geo kit.
It was a copy of a Jobiwan "Rocket" F1 chassis.

Call it whatever you want, it's a plumber car. I've seen them for awhile now, nothing new or exciting.
