I am happy to announce the opening of the Slot Car Club of South Alabama. We have a Gary Gerding 80' custom roadcourse powered by 12 volts of mainframe switching power supplies with Trackmate race management system. The raceway is located in my garage at 19611 Sturma Lane, Robertsdale, AL 36567.

I can be reached at (251) 228-0602 or Slidergreg4@yahoo.com. We also have a Facebook page

We have great pit space for up to 16 racers, great lighting, and a great sound system. We don't have an air conditioner yet.

We would love to have visitors but please call at least a day in advance.

Looks real good! The wide, flat sweeper ought to be a challenge for some cars. :)

Real nice track.

Believe it or not the sweeper is banked 15 degrees and is Punched! The downhill after the sweeper car be punched in most classes but it's scary.
We will be having our next open track day on Sunday May 22. We should be air conditioned by then.

Yes, the track is cool. Literally. The air conditioner is in and running as of 1:15pm today.

We are not decided on which classes to race. 1/32 production and a 1/24th LMP / GT-1 class of some sort I'd imagine.

Great to hear from you bro.

You better come by if your in the area. There is a great liuttle 4 lane in Pratville too and we are trying to get a series going. They are two and a half hours away and have some great racers. Steve Harrington came down from LaGrange and raced with us. Slot racing LIVES in Alabama.

Greg-

Nice to see that you have fulfilled your dream slot track. It looks great, as do all of Gary's tracks.

Just one question how difficult is it to marshall?
Looks like the seat in the middle needs to be on a swivel for the marshal to get at all of the action.
Also, how do you get to cars that come off under the back top straight and top turns?

But then again, you probably don't come off much!

Best regards,

So much DRAMA for such small cars....

Mike,

Thanks! I hope you are able to try it some time!

Gary and I hashed out the visability and marshalling issues over several months and 15 drawings.

The chair is on wheels and swivels. The guy in the middle is responsible for the esses and the turn at the end of the downhill. All the underneath stuff and the turn entering the esses is marshalled from the backside. The track is in the middle of the room and has 360 degree access.

The first photo shows our Powertech power supplies by Slapshot. Flip the switch and you have a solid constant 12 volts. No batteries, no adding water, no charging and best of all, no lead acid BOMB under my track.

Second photos shows the downhill into the keyhole.

Third is peeking into the keyhole area.

Fourth kind of shows how the "underneath" sections are marshalled, from the back side.

Fifth is the exit from the esses, lead on, and turn one. Also a good shot of the drivers panel with controller holders. Is that black lane tight enough? Believe it or not, black is the fastest lane as it's the shortest way around. It's also the hardest.

Last is the race directors bench with Trackmate and the sound system shown. I downloaded the Slottrack 11 software that works with the Trackmate hardware the other day. I like it. Still figuring it out. It has qualifying mode. Sound system is a 200 watt Techniques amp, 4 channel powered mixer, JBL speakers and a Shure SM-57 mic.

We can pit up to 16 people comfortably. I'm considering a backup A/C unit as with that many people(and soldering irons) we might need some extra cooling.

A small addition can make a big difference. I just added 18' of "Ropelight" to the underside of the top level over the keyhole and short chute areas. It lit it up perfectly. Made it much easier to see "down under" for the drivers and the marshalls.

Hi Alan,

You assumed correctly. I'm working on some new stuff. One of the things I needed to improve is durability. My Kelly lightweight car got hammered in the last GTP race and is bent every which way. I just arranged a Saturday off so I can come on 4th of July weekend. I assume we will be racing? Saturdays off are hard to come by for me so you know I'm excited about racing at the Dungeon.
The ride back to L.A with John and Bud was a two and a half hour discussion on how to set up for next time. They gave me some good input. Especially for Flexi-GT.

I hope you can come down some Sunday afternoon and spend a few hours on my track. I'll help you get dialed in. It's kind of different and requires a different approach.
We hope to have some of the Pratville guys come down and race soon. I need to poll some guys and see when we should schedule it. I'll be happy to run Flexi GT and GTP plus an exibition race for one of our classes like ISRA A-Production. Thats European saloon bodies on Turboflexes with G-12 motors. They are a handfull to drive but look and sound incredible on my track.
