At the R4 I bent up my F1 and left it in the condition of needing a total rebuild or replacement. When Rick came out with the his two latest F1 kits I decided it would be easier to just build a new car. These kits gave me an excuse to build 2.

dennis 00.jpg

The replacement for my bent up Samson style F1 will be another Samson style F1 using Rick's DSF1 kit

Victory 00.jpg

I'm also going to build a Victory 2.3 kit with the axle attached to the pans arangement popular with Tony P, Marty Stanley and others. I've never built or tried one so it's about time.

In yesterdays mail I received my modified Victory parts from my friend Bill. I'll post a photo of them later.

You've built a couple of chassis now. Just keep doing it. Actually the Victory kit builds center will be the same as my D3 spec chassis, just with wider pans to take advantage of the IRRA's 1.625" width rule

Not much progress tonight. Instead of working on the F1's I tore my workshop apart. I wanted to look at how I did something on one of my Can-Am chassis and couldn't find it. Maybe I'll move some file cabinets and other bigger stuff in my shop tomorrow with the hope that it was knocked off and fell behind. If not it's probably long gone :shok: I guess I have too many cars if I don't know right away something is missing :laugh2:

Anyway back to the build

dennis 01.jpg

Rick's bracket is designed not to use an axle tube, but I enlarged the holes so I could use an axle tube. I'm trying to pay homage to Dennis's orginal design.

Looking forward to see the rest of the build. ;)

I worked on it last night a little more after I posted the photo.

True to Dennis's build I went with an inner rail of piano wire with two outside rails of Brazing rod.

dennis 02.jpg

I used Rick's Hoo-Doo's, Hicky-Doo's or whatever they're called? Doesn't really matter since they really simplified the front end construction and looks to be pretty robust. I believe since they're sandwiched between rails it's IRRA legal?

dennis 03.jpg

I still need to add some paino wire bracing to the rear axle tube, other than that the center section is just about done.

Since I forgot to give the motor bracket for my Victory build to my buddy Bill for modification I did it old school scratch building style with my Dremel and a file.

I removed .062" from the bottom of the motor bracket becuse it's going to be sitting and soldered on top of the rails. Not the prettiest of my work, but sufficient once hidden by the solder.

Victory 02.jpg

The center section will be very similar to my D3 spec Samson copy with the rails running close to the motor

Thanks I'm learning from your build my friend and I know that you don't mind. ;)

Hi Rob,
You know I love to watch building :D
Thanks for asking about the Mura motor....I installed Deathstar mags with .520 airgap to accept a "normal" arm.......then sent to Fast Ones for zap/comm cut/balance.......I have high hopes for it......

Thanks for showing us the builds :)

Put the center section together on the Victory build so I can get the dimensions for the center rattler..

As with the D3 build the motor fits nice and snug between the rails

This afternoon I had lunch my my friend Bill's house so I decided to pick the shaker pieces for the F1 builds. If my math is correct there should be an 1/8" gap on each side of the shaker piece with a FK motor installed.

Hi Rob love what I'm seeing, sure will make a great ride. ;) Glad that you are not wasting your time on the Tube.
I been busy painting a body myself to give this old Mike Stube chassis a new look.
Sadly it looks Jamaican. :laugh2: No TV here only some good old songs, only messing around with slot cars.

The one I painted for the car I loaned Oscar for the Westen States wasn't deemed legal by D3 ( Parma Lola T163 ). Oscar asked if I'd paint him a D3 legal body. I still need to do that.

I added the extra bracing to the rear axle tube

Then I used my R-Geo jig to solder pin tubes to the shaker piece. Unfortunately I didn't take a photo of it. I will when I do the one for my other F1 I'm building

Since the R-Geo DSF1 pans are made out of .050" brass and the rails are .064" I needed a spacer to fill the gap. My friend Bill suggested that I cut pieces from some 1/2" .015" K&S strip. Seemed like a good idea so that was what I did
