I have found a full set of brand new Russkit wire wheels which I would like to use.

I am open to all suggestions, Formula 1 or sports car of the '50s? I would like to use a clear body and an inline chassis.

Thank you in advance,
Luciano Luppi

Luciano,

A body will be a bit difficult to find because there are not too many replicas of the really old ones, like a Maserati 450S or a Ferrari TR.

Possibly the easiest to find (and it is not that easy) would be a Pactra Ferrari-Chevy with the fin, the one used by Oscar Koveleski of Auto World, because they sold many of them and they do appear on eBay.

Otherwise, a Ferrari 156 by Stormer or Pactra, or an Alfetta or Connaught by Du-Bro.

The options are limited...

I am building a hardbody (Strombecker) Maserati 250F using those same wheels, also inline. Cox tires fit by the way...

The 450 S would be my first choice as I am lucky enough to have a friend crazy enough to let me drive his.
I like the Connaught a lot, what about a Vanwall? Would a Dynamic chassis be appropriate?

Yes indeed, but the Vanwall was mostly fitted with alloy one-piece wheels after a while.
At least the body is relatively easy to find.
You are a lucky boy to have access to a 450S. That big V8 has lots of torque... enough to twist the Borranis out of their centerlock hubs! :)
Careful when mounting the Russkit wires: the jam nuts are part of the wheels and they do not turn independently, when affixing, use a wrench on the nuts but do not hold the wheel at the same time or it will shear from your fingers! :shok:

Years ago when I ran across set of these wheels I put them on an MPC Lancia Ferrari. Probably not period correct, but they looked great on the car.

They are a bit wide and too small in their diameter but they still look cool on a Lancia... :)

Hi

Our friend in the UK has been doing repops of some of my collection. You can get a good Birdcage from him as well as the Maserati 300s and 450 S.

They also look good on the Russkit Ferrari 156 F1 car. (Remember the one I restored and brought to the museum on my visit Philippe? Scott was kind enough to purchase it from me and now sometimes I wish I hadn't sold it...)

But the Russkit Ferraris are becoming difficult to find too... :(

I've got a Lancer 156 body here that I'm just now packing up to send over to Dilworth for backpouring; give it a couple weeks and we'll have those available too.

"Lucky Luciamo", nice one Mr Dilworth!
If you can whittle up a suitable body i might be able to deliver in person while at the October "Thingie" meeting at Roncole Verdi which i think Luciano might be attending.
Hope you recovered from the "World's" on Wednesday night, will try and tempt more superstars to the next one by offering to pay travel expenses with day travel cards!

Since you wrote you were open to suggestions , here is what Enzo Ferrari called "the most beautiful car ever made" ,the 1961 Jaguar E type and my choice for using the Russkit wheels , using a hardbody kit. It can be seen in the production 1/24 catagory as " Monogram, Ranalli, Russkit Jag Wire wheel use " I have seen several clear bodies of this model available too . Maybe this will provide a link. http://slotblog.net/...__1#entry332018
