Probably the second most popular Chicago drag car from the 60's [Chi-Towm Hustler would be 1st] went on the block at the Mecom Auction yesterday. This is the most beautiful 57 Chevy gasser you will ever see. Bids reached 190,000-reserve not met! Someone please post a pic of this one. John

Thanks for the 60's pic.You should see it now, completely redone as a match racer.Runs in the 6 second bracket. The story is that it was hidden away for 20 years during a nasty divorce.Saw it run last year against Arnie the Farmer at Union Grove Dragway.

At 190K in this market, I would not have let go of it either...
But why did it bid so low? Are there questions about its authenticity? Something like this if totally real would bid easily half a mil today... ???
Is it because of the damaged credibility of Mecum auctions after that stunt they try to pull in Monterey with that fake Maserati T61?

Prices of the "average" muscle cars were in the 30-40k range with a lot of very nice cars selling. It sure showed how people need money these days.57 Pontiac Bonneville ragtop went for 160k, super car!

Being from the same neighborhood as the original owners of Shake, Rattle, & Run car. Back in the day the Messino Brothers had more than one Shake, Rattle, & Run 57 Chevy. Back in 1991 or so, all their cars were seized by the feds. Somebody must have bought this 57 Chevy from a fed auction in the past. Their 'Bank Robber" Hemi Belvedere also surfaced a few years back too!!!

The Messino brothers were just good business men from the Southside of Chicago. They lost everything they owned to some trumped up federal charges back in the 90's. I had some dealings with a few members of the Messino family in the past, and they are all fine, upstanding people to deal with.

Is it even the same car? Is it fiberglass or carbonfiber. My guess if it's doing 6 second runs, it's a full chassis car?

I think that might be car they were having built when the feds seized it. I was under the impression it was going to be a Pro-Mod they were building back then. Tom B??????? I think was the name of the chassis builder in Illinois who was building the car back then. Cool loking car in my book!!!!

It sure looks great. I wish Pro Stock would have stuck to that level, the ones I see now are too far from "stock".
