Cox Dan Gurney rubber bands

IMHO One of THE strangest production chassis ever produced was the Cox Dan Gurney Stocker.
It looks like Cox was trying to copy what a lot of successful guys were doing with brass and wire at the time but When, Where, and Why the crazy rubberbands that you ABSOLUTELY NEED to get the chassis down the track! Without them the chassis is TOTALLY useless.
Does anybody have a copy of any kind of instruction sheet Cox may have out out about how to correctly install the rubber bands?
This is how I run mine... with only moderate success. Is this correct?

The last pic shows a stopper (foam ?, rubber?) that contacts the drop arm so you can set guide height. I don't think it is mentioned in instructions, but only shown in pic.

Possibly rubber bands may find a place in Retro chassis tuning. You may be on to something here.

A rubber band wound up tight might make my car go faster.

No.Is this correct?
One rubber band is tensioned from the guide to the drop arm hook, the other is wound from behind the front axle tube and back to the hook, and this is what tensions the drop arm down some, while keeping it from dropping too much. There are only two that attach to that hook, not four.
The two other rubber bands are tensioned on each side of the body mount to insulate the body from chassis vibrations.
Regardless, without a proper positive drop-arm stop, the car handles terribly.

Not sure if caused by missing elastics , or getting run over by a truck.
