4" wheelbase, 1" guide lead.
.062" main rails, .055" bite bar.
3/4" motor bracket.

My only mistake or oops was placing front axle uprights too far apart. Will need to use a narrow hub front wheel.
Thought they looked good flush with cutouts.
Still needs to go through the tumbler.

Nice build, Brian!

I should have told everybody that the "kit" uprights weren't designed to sit flush with the wheel cutouts.

The motor bracket looks bulletproof with all the bracing!

Looking forward to seeing it after the wash,

I took the liberty of using the good ole camera to get some better pictures. It's a little more time-consuming, but it's all worth it! :)

DSCF8685.JPG

DSCF8686.JPG

The bulletproof motor bracket, I did this becasue of using the axle tube and the 3/4" motor bracket. Completed with the patent pending wonky gear guard. :)

DSCF8688.JPG

The bottom side, still haven't given it a good smooth wash through the tumbler. Waiting to get another one complete and then can do them back to back. Not at the same time!

64 grams as shown.

Over-all thought of building this chassis...

The brass was flat as a pancake, best I've ever worked with! (No I didn't get paid to say this!) :)

As the "other" Brian pointed out in his builds, a little filing around the sharp cut edges was all that was needed to make it nice and smooth.

You had to be very cautious when soldering on the guide flag with having the other piece underneath as the spacer, once it got hot it didn't take much to move it around.

The front axle uprights were set to the outside of the cutouts since the jig wheels held them nice and square. The afterthought was noticing the width being a little wide. DON'T do this if you're going to use bearing front wheels or a wide hub. They will need to be inset more onto the chassis plate.

I like the the fact you can place your body mount tubes anywhere on your pans, the easy way of course is the bent uprights, but why be like everyone else?!

Will scrounge up some parts and put this baby on the track to test.

Results will follow!

Thank you, FSF, for another great Retro kit!

Moving on with some more builds of the FSF Retro cars.

This one has the 1.3" motor bracket, .078" main rails, and a .062" floating bite bar

Still needs to be cleaned and tumbled.

Next up: something a little different with the FSF kits to show the versatlity of the pieces: an IRRA™ 4.5 Stock Car!

Very nice build, Brian!

Its really nice to see some different ideas.

If you notice, the holes in the motor bracket are larger than the bushings. This because the 3/4" and 1" motor brackets are sized for .218" bearing/bushing tubing. All other FSF motor brackets are sized for bearing/bushing only.

I also see you used the "tabbed" uprights, very cool!

Looking forward to seeing more,

Very nice, Brian!

You're the first to build a Stock Car out of the Pro CA. Johnny VW was going to build one out of a Z2CA but not sure if he finished it.

Dave,

I like the build/pic. also!

How did your test go?

I found my car to tight today at the P-O event at REM in Mentor, Oh by the time my main came around. I'm finding out I'm liking cutting tires. Reminds me of Rt.93 back in the day running GTPs & 12s!

Amigos,

Tested the new FSF Tripod chassis today at Rem Raceway. It ran as smooth as silk was very quick with a middle of the road motor.
Turning laps around 5.29 to 5.35 secs very good for me! Considering Cap Henry holds the track record in the sub 5 second region.
Very Please by the design. The workman ship was excellent thank you Brian. Seems to be a nice car to run at the R4....hmmmm.

You are quite Welcome Jay! and Enjoy! glad you like. :)

I too tested the car posted in #5 of this thread and it also done quite good for right outta the box,and NO lead added!
I'm not sure what laps times I was running with it? Jay will be giving us that info in the REM Sundays' of Thunder results..
Im thinking it was in the 5.1 range? and I let Mike Peskar drive it during practice,he handed it back to me and said he turned a 5.0 with it! so, it's got potential with a good driver behind the trigger.

Here is a picture of the assembled car.
