:) I figured it was about time I started a post with my chassis builds. The first one is the new FSF chassis kit that I built as a floppy pan design. The brass shines up real nice - I purposely put a reflection of the camera in two of the pictures. Comments welcomed.

:) Thanks, Rob. I am planning on racing this chassis next Saturday at Slots-A-Lot in the GT Coupe class. I seems to handle well but of course the real test is in a race.

Sano build, Mike. :good:

Two questions...

Does the motor contact the center brass? Hard to judge from the pics.
Is the left front wing damaged or is this some secret speed trick?

Oh... one more. What are your thoughts on the front up-rights?

:) Bob,

The motor goes in with plenty of room to spare although in the pictures in doesn't appear that way.

The marks on the wing were in the brass I guess from the original cutting.

I used the front uprights since these come with the kit. I was going to make piano wire supports but decided to use these supplied ones instead.

The uprights look strong... are they heavy-ish, easy to work with alignment, come pre-bent?

Would this be a low bite/low flex design with the four rails and the center pan?

Thanks.

Are the main rails twin .055"?

My next one on the chassis jig is just like this one, I'm doing a .078" single rail with the other style front axle uprights.

Was wondering on how to attach the pans? And now I know! :)

Great-looking build, Mike! Thanks for sharing.

Oh yeah, is the motor bracket the 1.4" width?

The uprights i guess are on the heavy side but should be plenty strong. They are flat and you have to bend them but are pre-notched and very easy to bend. There is nothing to align them but the jig lets you put them in the correct spot.

This chassis has a very smooth flex to it, more than an .063" single rail but less than an .078" rail.

The bracket is the 1.4" width and I found that I have to use narrow tires to clear the .055" chassis rail that is next to it. The rails are both .055".

Nice build, Mike!

Glad to see you are finally showing some of your fine work. Mike is a great builder and gets that shine without a tumbler. He does it the old fashioned way - Comet and a brush. LOL.

Now you need to take some pics of your winning frames - the Tripod and the Stock Car.

Very nice, Mike!

Looking forward to seeing it assembled. The 1.4" motor brackets actually measure 1.370 and the 1.46" measures 1.440". The only time that we ran into trouble with a wide motor bracket is when the 1.46" measured 1.467".

The Pro Can-Am kit actually comes with a 1.3" motor bracket that measures 1.281". I was out when I sent out chassis for building, that's why you have the 1.4".

I believe we wrapped the inner .055" under the bracket and the outer came up the corner.

There should still be .020" per/side of clearance for the tire. That's if you have your tires rubber faced off flush with the hub.

Just an observation...

:) Thanks for the compliments!!! Will find out how it races Saturday but since it is a GT Coupe race I will be at the mercy of the FK motor gods. I will have to add some weight as it still only weighs 106.7 grams RTR.

Hey Mike,

Good-looking chassis. Where did you get the steel guide piece? Did it come with the chassis?

I believe the guide tongue is the one Brian includes in the kit.

He won't tell but I will. This frame in it's maiden voyage win this weekend when Mike used it in our GTC-FK Class race. Here are the pics of the whole car. He kicked but with it on the King.

I just want to say "Thank you" Mike,

I appreciate you taking time to put one of these kits together & the BIG plus is you won with it!

I believe this the second win for FSF in the Retro East series, Johnny VW took one awhile back with a Z2CA tripod.

Looking forward to seeing more "Katz" builds,

Nice looking kit. I need to get one to build to do a comparison or two since I'm getting back into building. Good clean work and the design is straight forward.
