Fellas,

Our sponsor had an Auto Hobbies 1/32 Maserati GP car listed in the catalogue. Saying, what the hell, why not, I bought it. It arrived the other day and to my surprise it is actually 1/24 scale! The tag on the package doesn't say a thing so God-honest truth I don't know what this is, but it's sure cool looking. Any help from those in-the-know?

About a year ago (correct me if I'm wrong, Joe) I purchased a beautiful set of front and rear Russkit Wire Wheels from The Lone Wolf. Looks like they will fit nicely with this car.

I'm just stumped as to what chassis to put under it. Our sponsor mentioned a brass chassis or a dynamic, and I think I can fit a 36D under there. While en route I thought I could fit an EJ's 1/32 chassis (that is used for his Midget) but that was at 3" wheel base. At 4"...hrmmmmm :)

Czechenzy this:

Personally, I'd like to put a jail-door or some other such brass and wire chassis under it. I'm a little burnt out on Dynamic...

Comments welcome, fellas!

That's what I plan to do with a Strombecker Maserati 250. Russkit wire wheels, knockoffs and brass rod chassis. (I need to work on that one....)

Sounds cool Jairus! Pete and I have been tinkering around with 1/32 classic Maserati 250Fs...the EJ's chassis fits it well, and Sizzlerdom Dom Roselli does a great repop. Let me see if I can get you a picture...

Of course it is not a "Lancia-Ferrari" that had the former side tanks in one piece with the body, but simply a Lancia. I do not know why it was listed as a "Maserati" in the ED catalog and especially in the 1/32 scale but it is indeed a model in the 1/24 scale of the 1954 Lancia D50, actually the prototype that had all the big louvers that the final car did not have. It means that it needs those big side tanks to make a model of it... something that Auto-Hobbies did not supply!

However, one can always Bondo the sides and make it a 1957 Maserati 250F, hey, what's the heck. :)

Philippe,

We've given some thought to crushing some tubing aluminum/plastic whatever, and fishmouthing it to form the tanks. I preffer the earlier version without the pipes coming through the tanks such as the cutaway. We'll have to come up with some struts to float the boat so to speak.

The Ferrari Formula 1 Car 1948-1976 book by Thompson has some excellent photos of the car, we'll be using it as a guide of sorts.

Rodney has the keen eye and Pete spotted the formed area where the prancing pony should go.

There are pits in the body along both sides that appear to be intake points for an exhaust piping system.

I'm headed to Pennington on Sunday...my friend's wife should still have my jail door chassis, we could make this, at the least. a starting point for the chassis.

Onward my friends...Onward!
