We had many great times back when you had your track in Vista and all the Nats we were at. I hope you find peace...
You had many friends that will remember you.

i knew Gary from Vista in the early '90s when Foamy, Mark Brown, and I raced three types of Flexi NASCARs in a race series that he held.
And then Gary raced HO with SCHOR for a couple years...
The Guinness World Record HO lap total for 24 hours was set at Gary's, also in the '90s, when he had his HO track. John Cukras and Dale Yamashita were part of that SCHOR Team (just a bit of nostalgia)...
He will be missed... by many friends...
RIP, Mr Cleverly.

Sad to see the guys I raced with dying off, it's getting way too frequent.

He helped me in many ways with racing, and introduced me to Beuf and Keith Keeler. He talked me into playing with HOs.
He was one of the better track owners, and we all will miss him.

We were both 1/8 scale RC500 R/C gas car racers in San Diego.
After a couple years of that Gary talked me into trying go-cart racing.
So we went go-cart racing and Gary sponsored one of the young hot shoe drivers.
Gary had a black 911 and a red Chevy pick-up with shell and big sound system that he competed with at the stereo wars. Gary at the time lived in Del Mar (think Dull Mar was ihis personalized lic plate) and the GTP races were being held then at the Del Mar horse track.
So Gary told us how on a foggy damp night he took his 911 and did a lap on the GTP track. With security chasing him off the grounds he managed to sneak his 911 back home without being caught.
I thought he was related to the Cleverlys that owned some car dealers at one time back in Indiana or ?
I lost track of him when he got into slot cars but was not surprised later to hear about the awesome tracks he raced/managed.
Gary lived a charmed life, did he ever have a real job? I think he spent his time enjoying hobby after hobby.

Back in the '80s the first cell phone call to my house was from Gary.
