After almost 50 years, slot car racing is still very much alive in New Zealand.
Most New Zealand clubs race 1/32 scale cars. The larger commercial raceways that offered 1/24 scale racing, disappeared in the late '60s. The Wellington Club is New Zealand’s only true 1/24 club.
The Club has existed for fourteen years and recently moved into new refurbished clubrooms in Porirua City, some 15 to 20 minutes north of the capital city, Wellington.
We race on a six-lane, 53.5 (175.5 foot) track which is powered POSITIVE to the left braid in the direction of travel. A 120 amp power supply producing 13.8 volts is connected in parallel to a large truck battery.
4" Flexi chassis with Falcon and Super 16D motors are the mainstays of our racing schedule. We also race F1/Indy, Wing, and Eurosport cars with Group 12 motors.
