MMRK in Ikast, Denmark is hosting their first Street & Strip race on monday, June 11th.

As my good friend, Jan is one of the organisers, I want to support the fun initiative and decided to build a car for the event. You race on both a drag strip and a 4-lane Carrera track and points for both races are added for a total score, so the task is to build a car, that can perform in both conditions

Rules are pretty simple: motor has to be either The 18v Black Carrera or Bison, rear tyres must be White Point rubber (not foam), total car width 85mm. The rest is free of choise.

I found a couple of hot rods on e-bay and decided to make the 1:24 Testors Boyd Smoothster. I am currently playing around with my Proxxon drill stand and coordinate table and decided to make a milled 1,5mm grp chassis for the car.

Axle mounts are German Schöler parts - front is modified to allow the guide mount to be mounted on top of the chassis. Flex is built into the chassis due to to longitudinal cuts. In case of too much flex i plan to mount some cross bars to stiffen it. A rear mounted cross bar will provide adjustable flex of the side pans.

Body mounts ready to install in body

Body is painted Faskolor Pearl orange and clear coated. Crome parts are mounted and Baremetal foil is used on the rear crome stripe and windscreen frame. Fornt wheels are 17mm inner dia alu wheels with hard foam tyres. Inserts are from kit wheels. Rear wheels are 15mm inner dia alum wheels with White Point rubber. Inserts are my own resin parts.

lead added to the sides of the chassis to increase roadholding. The rear cross bar is mounted floating, allowing the side pans to move and flex. The guide arm is mounted on a tongue to allow for some flex.

Driver jack DeVille ready for some action :-)

A hardtop is supplied in the kit, but I might leave it off as the car looks great without

The finished car from below. The body is mounted on the chassis with 2 screw in each side pan.

I am a little concerned if the car is stiff enough in the longitudinal direction as the motor is pretty heavy and has a good grunt! - but only tests will show. I hope to get a possibility in Ikast thursday when we are racing the 10hour Thunder in the Desert Team Race with White Point CanAm cars.

I love a good street race. Wahoooo !
Joseph Migliaccio. Karma it's a wonderful thing.

Some people are like Slinkies... they're really good for nothing... but they still bring a smile to your face when you push them down a flight of stairs.

Niels,

Looks great as always. Funny how that Danish poster looks a lot like southern California. :dance3: Would you please share a picture or two of your Proxxon drill and coordinate table setup. I'd love to see how you're milling works.

Cheers eh,

Todd

Looks like both a fun project and a fun race.

Actually the drill stand is not recommended for milling, but it was ok for this purpose.
