It seems a few folks who were distracted during the original auction, or simply missed it, wanted to donate as that one was closing, so we're going to start a second round.
As before, all proceeds from this auction will be donated to the Haslinger Family Pediatric Palliative Care Center at Akron Children's Hospital in Akron, OH.
We'll handle this one the same way as we did the first one. The items will be posted to this thread and I'll update the bids as they are received.
Place bids by PM'ing me (preferably) or by emailing greg@slotblog.net if you don't have access to the Slotblog PM system.
This Mr. Frank II auction will run for two weeks, until Midnight Eastern time, Friday, April 20, 2012.

***#1 Is a Champion FT16D with the "Orange Picker" endbell. Both the endbell and the can have been modified to accept precision 5mm ball bearings and of course the motor has also been modified to accept 36D (modern) brushes with the new brush tubes soldered-in. Shunts, a pair of springs I wound from stainless steel and new brushes completes the package. Magnets are NOS Yellow Dots and they are strong sonofaguns. Armature has been assembled from .007" lams and sports a #26 wind with a Bugenis comm, drill blank shaft with dynamic balancing by Bill. The can got a nice coat of "Hammered Silver" for a durable and attractive (if not "vintage-looking") finish.
The motor runs really smooth and very strong as you would expect for a #26. To complete the package, there's a "Bag O' Arms" built for the same setup of varying winds (all dynamic balanced and sporting Bugenis comms as well) from #25 single to a #29 double wind... so the winning bidder has a "lifetime supply" to play with.
Because of the bearing installations, these arms are spaced more closely to fit a modern "C" motor, but could probably be installed in "D"-sized motors with spacers (?). This motor was built for my own use in the next proxy and the choice was between this a Mura "Green Can". It was a close call, but I chose the Mura, so I couldn't think of a better thing to do with the motor than offer it here in Frank's memory!
***Second offering is for a Hawk motor that I'll build and rewind an arm for. I'll wind anything from a #23 to a #30 single... or a #30 double wind. This will be a new motor and the set-up will remain stock except for my possibly having to clearance the inside of the endbell hardware for a Bugenis comm and installation of a can-side ball bearing.

Thanks for bidding. There was a $50 bid in place before your post, I just couldn't get it posted during the day yesterday due to work stuff. And there's now a higher bid on the table.

At Momma's direction, Brian McPherson is going to select a car from Mr. Frank's collection to add to this auction, but a family emergency intervened over the weekend. He'll get to it when he can.
I'll add your third motor to the bid page when I get home.
Might want to check the MOTOR #1 bid in a few moments; it just went way up!

As I had mentioned when we spoke, I was treally bummed that I screwed up with the first one. I never met Frank and only spoke with him on the phone, but he seemed like the kind of guy I would have loved to hang with.
It's an honor to do something this way.

Wish Frank could tell us what he was trying to do with the shocks/springs... Note the engine-turned drop arm.
Brian indicates the tires are dried-out and of course, we have no idea how much running time the Falcon motor has seen.
This is a car Frank built himself, including (we think) the motor bracket.
This car will be listed in the bidding post as FRANK'S CAR #1. Bid early and bid often!

I think the body is a Marauder made by Ray Fellows.

Yes, Brian! That is a Flexi version of the Marauder I did that Frank painted. One cool car.
I'll have to get something together to put in this auction.

I have the can baking in the oven to cure the new paint after stripping it and drilling it for endbell retaining screws. I also removed the caged bushing and installed a fixed 2mm x 6mm oilite with a dummy shaft installed to keep things straight.

The can is complete with the magnets epoxied-in and the bushing replaced with a fixed 6mm x 2mm oilite. The bushing makes for a more solid setup, even though the caged bushings are fine, and I try and do them so the can still retains it's vintage look (unless you look closely and see the "ring" where it was fitted). The "Hammered Black" finish is tough and I think looks "serious" and "custom"... the way a hot rod motor should! The endbell will need work next, but the motor is shaping up really nicely so far.

Have you also tried using the smaller 5 mm oilites in the can?
I intend to live forever! So far, so good.

Sure, and I see no particular reason to prefer one or the other so I just grab whichever falls out of my bushing can first.
In the case of the FT16D, either is a pretty easy retrofit. I just ream out the can until the bushing is a tight "tap-fit" and then solder it in after aligning it.

Once again, the details are:
1) Strip can and drill for endbell retaining screws
2) Remove caged bushing and solder in 2mm x 6mm oilite (aligned)
3) Spray can "hammered black"
4) Epoxy in new magnets (approximately "Arco" strength)
5) New Tradeship endbell
6) Straighten the brush tubes and solder them to the hoods
7) Wind four-coil x .014" stainless steel springs
9) Install spring post protectors
10) Strip and clean Mabuchi FT16D arm stack
11) Press in new drill blank shaft
12) Space arm for setup and install Mura comm
13) Wind 55T/#29 awg
14) Tie, epoxy, and static balance arm
15) True tail spacer and comm end
16) New com cut
17) Radius/clearance, cut inside of endbell hardware
18) Assemble, oil, short break-in... arm measures .474 ohms per pole, draws 1.4 amps, runs cool (and looks cool )
To sweeten the pot, I'm throwing in one of the few triple winds I've ever done... a #29 triple I'm not sure if this was static or dynamically balanced, but it runs like, well, like a #29 triple. Whoever gets it might want to spend the few bucks and have it dynamically balanced just to be sure because this is pretty serious medicine:
If you have no use for such an arm, it will make a dandy necklace for that certain special lady

These Nodies are original design concepts, one Deepdish, one Crazy-cuc, and version #2 Jupiter Flexi width. They were cut down and mounted, Cuc and Jupiter on Flexis, but never run.
If you need additional info, let me know.
Thanks!

Dear Mr. Wells,
We in the Akron Children’s Hospital Foundation were very moved by the donation we received in memory of Frank Elavsky. The way that the Slotblog.net community came together to raise money to honor the memory of Frank is a beautiful thing to see, and a great testament to Frank’s memory. Please extend our thanks to all of your members that supported the effort. We will use the money to help the patients and families in our Palliative Care Center.
If you have any questions about your gift, please contact me. Thank you so much for making a difference in the lives of our children and families.
Gratefully,
Brian
