GRRR Apocalypse 2012 Retro Series #4 - Thomasville Destroyed!
March, 2012
The GRRR flying circus made the long trek to Thomasville Ga, for the 4th round of the 2012 Apocalypse Retro Series. The venue was Can-am on the King, F1 on the Engleman and Flexi on the Orange. Aaron had the tracks massaged and they were super smooth. Entries were down this time probably due to the big raise of gasoline prices and the proximity of the date so close to the R4. But as usual the racing was pretty damn good.
RETRO FLEXI
Flexi was up first on the Orange.
GRRRant Goerner made sure everyone last legal for all 3 classes.
Nick Provetti took best appearing and Ken Stevens most realistic honors.
Ralph Was TQ with a 3.357, he was followed by:
Terry Tawney 3.373
Nick Provetti 3.446
Skip 3.466
Grant 3.517
Ivan 3.561
Ken Stevens 3.638
Ken Stevens third, Terry Tawney 1st and Ralph Thorne 3rd. It was a tough main, in fact I had to rebend all 3 podium cars in the main as they were involved in major wrecks. Ralph how lead early on, got the worst of it with his motor finally giving up the ghost at the end.
1. Terry Tawney 381
2. Ralph Thorne 376
3. Ken Stevens 362
4. Skip 362
5. GRRRant Goerner 347
6. Ivan 343
7. Nick Provetti 332
Terry's first place car.
Whats left of Ralph's second place car.
Ken Stevens 3rd place Texas machine.
CAN-AM
Joey got the Can-am entrants teched in helping GRRRant keep the program running like a clock.
Bob Dewoody took most realistic with his Lola and I took best appearing with my O/s Ti-22. It is those Noose painted interiors and FSF numbers that do the trick. LOL
Ralph was TQ with a new track record of 4.837 Followed by Terry and myself with the same time, since no back up was written down, we flipped a coin, Terry won.
Terry Tawney 4.927
tonyp 4.927
Ernie Provetti 5.020
Bob Dewoody 5.027
Rick Moore 5.046
Ken Stevens 5.125
GRRRant Goerner 5.204
Damn, I had ralph this time, I was ahead in the closing minutes of the 7th heat when a marshall accidently knocked me into the wrong lane in the deadman and I walled flat punch under the bridge, bending and locking up the JK front on the pan. I ripped the rubber off between heats, but could not hold on. I did manage 2nd. Ralph was fast as usual and cruised in the last heat to take another win at the Viper Pit. Terry was in the hunt for most of the main for the win and wound up third at the end.

2 hours later his stomach was bothering him, he went to sit in the car and threw up all over the windshield and dash of the Benz suv we took to the race. Good thing Ernie's was in the shop and it was a loaner.
