Just to give a idea of what a grid of saloons look like run to the UKRRA rules.

Thursday club night at Raceway 81 last night was Retro saloons.

"B" Final. Three Mighty Minis almost outnumbered the Yank Tanks. Might have to get some more American metal to even the out odds, LOL.

"A" Final

_DSC0118_022_DSC0118.JPG

Richy Kettleson won from the A Final starting on lane 1 with George Kimber second from the B final starting on lane 6, with myself third starting on lane 5 in the A Final; Graham Stevensons little green Mini was fourth.

Track was cold and grip inconsistent, with lap times down on normal. Saloons are not as quick as Can-Am or F1 due to the poor arodynamics and lack of downforce. We allow 3/4" rear wheels which allows the use of old tires off the Can-Am cars for reduced running costs. The IRRA™ are proposing something similar for F1 which if approved would allow us to use tyres from Can-Am to F1 then for the UK down to Saloon.

Mike

Good looking field... We used to run a class of thos mini's here in Western Pa back in the 60s. They were a hoot!

However, I wouldn't hold my breath waiting for your last statement to happen... :shok:

I read it somewhere on the forum, it must have been a old proposal.

In the USA saloon racing is when we go out drinking first, then hit the slot track. Lol. Looks like you guys are having fun. Keep it up, retro rules....

Not an Anglia in the bunch? You need a wheelbase rule.

Hey, membership: anybody besides me gettin' a strong Rocky Russo vibe off this guy's avatar photo?

Agreed, Mike K's pic is "Rocky like".

Also, IMO, a bit like Howie.

I'm trying to put my finger on what (rather than who) your own photograph reminds me of, Duffy. Mine was done by Josia Wedgewood in 1787. My wife wears it in a little oval brooch around her neck.

Hi Matt got some pics last night, I have driven one of these cars and it's pretty good , handles well without tipping but ultimately not yet as quick as the other saloons. I once organised a 6 hour race at Middlesbrough club in the early 70's for this size of car, actual wheelbase is 6' 9", we had 2 Mini's a Hillman Imp and a Fiat 500. the latter two shells are no longer available I cannot remember who produced them. We basically used 2 1/2" 1/32 anglewinders with 2-5/8 over the wheels and group 20 motors. I have owned a few full size Mini's and nothing can touch them for handling, even Enzo Ferrari owned 2 Mini Coopers.
Talking about team owners Ross brawn Mercedes team manager Is a former UK slot racer and one of his chassis is for sale on ebay, or may of already been sold.

The next Mini race happens at racway 81 this Thursday evening with 5 cars (I think) battling it out with the Chargers etc.

FYI If any of you guys are in the UK in August we have a weekend race for Saloon, F1, Can Am and Tottenham cars. See details at http://raceway81.com/page19.html
