Back in the '60s, Parma had a distinct label they put on their controllers. It resembled a long legged spider on steroids.

Assuming there is no copyright on this logo I would like to print a copy for my personal use. Does anyone have a well-preserved label that could be scanned?

Which begs the question - Why is the Parma Tiger a spider?

Someone knew their spiders - the Wasp Spider, AKA the banded argiope, is also nicknamed the Tiger Spider.

It also begs the old 40+ years question:

Why did Parma have a spider, tiger or not, as a brand logo/label?

I sent Mike MacDowell a link to this thread and I'll bet he'll chime in here when he sees it.

Dan...

I don't see a problem, but maybe you can PM me with any details of your plans. Thanks for asking.

There was a post before that addressed this question HERE.

... Here was my answer from that thread:

"Posted 18 June 2009 - 08:37 PM
Interesting question, Jon.

Sorry, Ron, but Steve is right that the dog was named after the "Tiger"... we even had a guinea pig named Tiger before the dog.

However, Ken designed the Spider back when he was airbrushing "wierdo" shirts and floppy felt hats before slot cars. The Parma Tiger grew out of that during the raceway days. As the story goes, the spider dressed like a tiger was kind of a goof, inside joke for the local Parma crowd because in the mid-'60s a local Cleveland Friday night horror movie show was hosted by Ghoulardi (Ernie Anderson later of ABC announcer fame and father of Paul Thomas Anderson - director of Boogie Nights, etc.) and they made a lot of fun of certain ethnic groups that populated Parma, one of the biggest suburbs... like they all wore white socks, had chrome balls or pink flamingos in their yards, etc... so the spider with the mean tiger looks became the Parma Tiger."

Thanks, Mike.

I had forgotten all about that thread. Must be getting senile (like my wife keeps saying... LOL!).

John,

I seem to remember seeing a photo of the chassis on here recently, maybe?

Or are you more looking for the printed material? If so we should have it somewhere in the archives. If I come across it I will let you know.

Mike, I remember Ghoulardi. Do you remember him being sued by Dorothy Fuldheim.

Back to the topic. Speaking of Parma stickers and logos, I am still using my slot car box from the mid 60's. It has two different Parma raceway stickers on it when i raced there in the mid 60s to the early 70s.

I would buy a T-Shirt with the Parma Tiger Spider on it. Its really is cool even in a pop art sort of way. Maybe I will try that paper that lets you print out iron-ons. :)

Mike,
I am looking for the printed Material for the" HO PLumber Chassis", Chassis would be bonus? I heard your best builders/ racers, would make them for the store. Any information would be helpful, builders, pictures, race reports?
Thanks in advance
