Hi!

I get this car and I would to know which brand did this body, and which model does it represent? The chassis is a Dynamic one, but the singularity is the motor is a General Electric. I don't know if General Electric did motors for slot purposes or the first owner used one taken from other electrical piece like a fridge.

That's a simple one. Lancer factory painted body of the 1966 Chaparral 2E, and Dynamic "Silver Hornet" motor made by General Electric for an appliance.

From what I remember that was a fairly good motor. Real strong magnetic field that wanted a high gear ratio. About equal to a 26D speed-wise but more costly.

Not a match for the Mura or Champion rewinds though!

Its problem was too much instant torque and very powerful brakes. The solution was simply to gear it a lot taller, but few grasped that in the day.

Two of these motors were entered in the "Dynamic Challenge" proxy race.

One died and was replaced while the other is still chugging along after nine races in Phil Smith's "Futurekingiethingie".

Try three cars have this motor! 6T is still in the top ten with one race to go!

I still have the one I got it in the late 60's, in the same chassis as you show (cept the pans).

Then was taken by surprise when I saw the same motor, nestled in the top of the Helicopter in this Electro-Mechanical Helicopter game! :shok: :laugh2: :D

The same motor was used [2 of them] in the Lionel magnetic gantry crane!

Wrong! Everybody grasped that right away: it was in all the articles and even in Dynamic's ads! The main problem was that it was just too big and heavy compared to the contemporary 16D or even 26D rewinds - except in top speed.

They've been very popular at the Bordo vintage races, and also very successful. They're a good match for cars with more scale tires in fact, and the braking and acceleration are an advantage for this type of car. Only one burned out that I know, but I think there was a problem with a gear binding...

Hi Guy! That motor may or may not be the same one that was used for slot cars. I mistakenly bought a bunch of 3ADM General Electric motors off Ebay thinking they were 3ADM4 motors. The end bell on the motor I bought is cheaper and less robust and the RPMs are around 1000 RPMs instead of the 3ADM4 motor's 35,000 or more. I say this because I had a man ask to buy one from me for an older arcade game he had. He later sent me some pictures of how the motor nested into the arcade game's innards. I still have a couple of them around somewhere and they called them "toothbrush motors". At the time I bought them I was bidding against Don Seigel and didn't know him. I thought I had skunked him on the bid, but when I saw what my greed had bought I had one thought- Serves me right! I think Don got a laugh too.

I did Gary, and you later sent me one of these motors, which is now a valued part of my collection - along with a couple other instances of industrial versions of slot car motors, like the Russkit 25...

The Dynamic/GE is one of the better stories in the history of slot car motors, for many reasons.

Don

PS: did we actually ever find out if this was really a toothbrush motor? One of the articles said that, but not sure I've ever seen "the proof is in the brush", as for the arcade game... (or 36D motors in a hair dryer).

Back in the 70's my family had an electric toothbrush that we retired and I was allowed to cut apart. The motor inside was nothing like this GE motor. Quite a bit smaller actually and had a gear drive unit that fit on top with no vent holes what so ever.

You want to know the strange thing? I still have it... somewhere, just can't throw cool stuff away... must be in a box of old motors in storage.

Well, hidden components, such as the armature, brush assembly, etc may have been different. But the unmistakable profile and color of the motor certainly caught my eye.

I was never able to find out the exact model, but this motor has the flattened ends of the armature shaft so it certainly seems possible. At least we KNOW it was used in two different arcade games! I always liked the GE motor, which was why I was looking to make a killing on that Ebay auction. Ten years later it makes for some intersting story telling!

Sorry for not answering before. Thanks a lot for your extremely wide knowledges. Every question I do you answer it more than expected. It's funny too see how sloters from 60s dismantled electric apparels trying to find a Saint Grial Motor.

Kind regards.

I never had a running GE motor back in the day but I did see them run on track, not very impressive. Find them blown-up in the ashtrays in the pits or laying abandoned on the drivers panel lead me to believe they were crappy.

Took them home to take apart as a what makes these tick 'learning experience'.

I do remember the Helicopter Trainer machine from the arcade. Very cool!
